Ring buzzer 2B and take the stairs to the second floor. The Earth Room is a great escape from the bustling streets of Soho!

Best to visit after the dirt has been watered. Guy running the show (er, as of Jan 2014) says he waters it on Tues and rakes it Wed mornings, so Tues or Wed at lunch time are prob your best bet.

Anytime I'm on Wooster Street, I try to swing by even if just for 2 minutes. If you catch the Earth Room just after they've watered the dirt it is especially awesome.

As the name suggests, the Earth Room is a room full of dirt. Rich, dark dirt, knee deep, housed in a 3600 square foot room in Soho, intriguing viewers for the past 30 years.

Ring the 2b buzzer. Walk upstairs to second floor. Look at an awesome apartment sized space filled with dirt. Leave. Contemplate.

    Been here 5+ times
    1. Ring the buzzer 2b 2. Walk to second floor and see 3,600 sq feet of prime real estate covered with 280,000 pounds of earth 3. Be astounded, bewildered and confused.

The dirt in this room hasn't been changed since '77 and is watered on a regular basis. In addition, seedlings and mushrooms have been known to spring up.

Bring someone you fancy. The stillness, and the complex scent of earth at just above conscious threshold, is aphrodisiac.
