Nice place, good food
Politely ask the Barman and he will show you the scrapbook that documents the ghost sighting and hauntings at this 16th century pub, including the highway robber Dick Turpin.
The food here is great. What I love though is the extensive beer garden which doesn't feel like you're in London at all! Great for a drink/lunch after a romp across Kenwood or the Heath.
Great beer garden
Nice traditional pub
Delicious food and really lovely beer garden.
So doggy friendly!
Ale, spacious garden
A good place for a drink but if you want dinner, it might be a bit too crowded.
Really cool space but the food didn't quite live up to it.
One of the best Sunday roasts in London. The whole roast chicken can feed up to 4-5 people.
Great for a Sunday Roast in good weathers. Has a big garden to enjoy and lots of tap beer.
Perfect place for a pint after going for a stroll in the Heath. Dog friendly and a massive, cosy beer garden.
Huge beer garden, and really nice inside too
Legendary Hampstead boozer with a great beer garden.
One of the best roasts I've had. Really cozy pub too.
Celebrating my lovely Hellen's birthday in London.
Very disappointing. Roast pork was cold and burnt and without apple sauce or crackling.
Nice pub, big beer garden, good beer. Very slow service, very very dirty toilets . Hope they sort these out soon.
Food is no longer good here.
Try the potted caramel and the house red. Apart from one excellent waiter, service was a shambles and the Sunday roast was average and overpriced. Try the red lion and sun in Highgate instead
Features in Bram Stoker's Dracula - Van Helsing goes for a drink here!
I love the coffee here.:)
It's a 1589 pub. There is no better way to enjoy outdoors
Not great and remembering to bring your food when they're very busy...
Fantastic food. Book or suffer a long wait
Classic old (really old) London pub with a great Sunday roast. make sure you book ahead (online) to avoid a long wait
Very busy, free parking, lots of beers. Food priced accordingly, pretty expensive. Great Pub.
Was once great. Regular customer for 5 years, never again. 40% price increase on food in the past 2 months and this is what you get for £14. Absolute Joke. Too many other great places worth the money.
Pricey for a pub but its situation justifies the premium!
Cosy, rustic and dog-friendly pub - they even have their own menu and spa (well, sort of). The roast chicken dinner on a Sunday is to die for.
If you can tolerate the noise of all the children here, it's a lovely spot. Good food
If you plan on getting the 210 here, leave at least 3 days for the journey
No cats allowed
28 December: It was built in 1585, and was for many years a tollgate inn, forming the entrance to the Bishop of London's estate. The tollgate remains and traffic is reduced to one lane outside.
Go for the 21-day aged West Country roast beef. Truly amazing.
Great place to be in.
Look out for the cross-eyed cat in the beer garden!
Love the wine list here along with some really good food - no highwaymen tho, can be difficult to park
Great gastro pub and beer garden on the edge of hampstead heath (park), loads of character and history here
It's very easily mistaken for a crèche, rather than a pub
Famous pub...Lots of history and look for space in the Den for a pint or some grub...
Lift with your knees not ur back
Great pub for a sunny day but get here early to grab a table
good ales, good food and amazing place. It's hard to believe you'r still in London and not in the middle of english countryside... the huge patio is the perfect place ehere enjoy a beer in summer time
The best veggie Sunday lunch I've ever eaten!
This historic pub on the site of a tollgate was once the haunt of highwaymen, who when caught were hanged nearby. The pub appears in Dickens’ Pickwick Papers and in Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Loved the pumpkin soup! Great autumnal hangout after a stroll through mushy leaved Heath. Love the old style decor and friendly service. Nice one.
