    The view is much closer from the back (aka the northern side) but access is typically restricted back there during the day. They open it up at night sometimes so take advantage when they do.

    The Zero Mile marker is across the street. Pierre Charles L'Enfant intended all roads on the continent to be measured in reference to this point. Today only roads in DC do, though.
