yes it's overrated and overpriced but its the only place of its kind and a definite must for anyone with filmic and/or cultural tendencies
Great lunch menu in the Canteen. Wifi too. The Sweet Potato Fries from the Appetizer Menu are amazing!
Film and popcorn
I am Dale Vander Woude. I have visited TIFF many times. I don't think that it is a bad place to go. I enjoyed there with my friends.
Amazing events here
Home of the Toronto Film Festival. A warren of escalators and screening rooms.
Their film series showcases are always great, like that time they showed a bunch of Nicholas Cage films

They don't serve fountain drinks (bottles only), and only have pepsi products. So you might want to sneak in a bottle/can of Coca-Cola if that's your style.
State-of-the-art building. Great movie screenings all year long, regardless of the TIFF.
You can't really beat Sunday brunch on the patio after church, followed up by a matinee.
Theater 1 seats are the best...
This place takes a "movie date" to a whole new level. Cute location & building, and the Kijiji cafe adds a little pizzazz!
Best popcorn in TO
The upstairs bar is good for people-watching over king street with a cocktail.

Films as they're meant to be seen. From Chinatown to Melancholia, each print I've seen has been crisp and bright. No hair/scratches; pristine sound. Film is an art form, and Lightbox is its gallery.
Check out the display of artifacts from the archaeological excavation of the first Toronto General Hospital. It's on the 4th floor in the lobby of the Film Library.
There are two unmarked washrooms hidden behind the escalators on the main floor. Handy if the ones upstairs are busy.
Have a glass of wine after the movie in the lounge while overlooking King St. W.
