Originally called Mom’s, it was renamed after Tootsie Bess bought the bar in 1960 & it was mistakenly painted orchid color. Willie Nelson, Mel Tillis, Waylon Jennings & Patsy Cline have been patrons.

Congratulations, you've found one of Esquire's Best Bars in America. Tootsie's has an upstairs and a downstairs bar. Each features live country music, but upstairs the music is better. Read more

You can get in faster if you try the back door, during the weekends.

Walk in the front, go upstairs, walk out the back, turn right, and go to Robert's.

Not just for tourists! I usually start upstairs to avoid the crowd. If you sit or stand at the end of the bar nearest to the band you will get served faster.

A must-visit for tourists and locals. I have a feeling this famous venue is always insanely honkytonk on Broadway though.

Local Tip! If the line is moving slow at the front door... try the entry in the back- little to no lines- you enter at the "upstairs bar" everyone has posted about... have fun!

This bar was out of control, packed from wall to wall, and near impossible to get a drink. However, I have never been into a bar where I could witness two cowboys dueling with their guitars across the Read more

I love the historical aspect of this bar... but that's about it. It's always too crowded for you to really enjoy yourself, unless you like feeling like a sardine. The place is mostly hype, sadly.
