The United States Marine Corps War Memorial represents this nation's gratitude to Marines and those who have fought beside them. While the statue depicts one of the most famous incidents of World War II, the memorial is dedicated to all Marines who have given their lives in the defense of the USA.

More than just the memorial. The surrounding park is beautiful and a great place for a picnic. Excellent views of DC.
Worth the walk but leave it till last as it is a short walk from here to Roslyn metro stop to get you back into Washington. Or if you have the energy, walk to DC across the bridge from here
See it at night on the Monuments by Moonlight trolley tour.
Go in the summer on Tuesday evening to the memorial and see the sunset ceremony with the marine corp band. Starts @ 6:30pm.

This is a must see - much larger than you could imagine. Go at night - beautifully lit!
Wait for the stars spangled banner to wave for a good photo. Best lens to use is the fisheye lens.

From here you can see the State Capitol, Washington Memorial, and Lincoln Memorial all bunched up together. It's an awesome view!
