I went with the kielbasa and the cherry lime rickey. Pay your respects to the Honey Bear painting on the wall.
Try the pierogies -- get one of each kind! My preference is steamed because it really lets the flavor shine through. - Alexa
On those days when you're craving Ukranian food, come here. Potato pancakes and stuffed cabbage, oh my. Get the borscht too, it's as authentic as it gets.
Indulge in the meatball sandwich at Veselka. Filled with pork & beef-based meatballs, topped with mushroom gravy on a challah baguette. Yum!

My favorite 24-hour diner in NYC. Always check out the pierogi specials. The borsch has the power to cure any illness. It could grow a limb.
My favorite is to get cheese perogies with beet horseradish salad. Yum.
Try the corn beef hash with two scrambled eggs! Delicious!
nice late night spot, if still hungry
Order the arugula and goat cheese pierogi. It's listed as a special but seeing as how it's been on the menu for the last two years, it's pretty much a fixture.
I'm such a sucker for Stuffed Cabbage, with Mushroom Gravy, of course, and a nice side of Kasha (not Kasha Varnishkes, sadly) also w/gravy =-D Awesome Pierogi, nice people, try the Borscht already!
Only thing better than the borscht is the typography.
Another NYC must try. Get the pierogies ( half fried and half boiled) and the raspberry cheese blintzes. You'll be in late night heaven.
Try the Matzo Ball soup and spot it on Foodspotting!
Chefs and club kids converge at this East Village diner for Eastern European hearty fare. Chef Dave Pasternack (Esca) “I go down to the Ukrainian diner Veselka to have some pierogies.”
I mean, is there really any other spot that can properly cure a mean hangover?
Worst brunch of my life. Truly horrendous. Not sure why people love this place
Get the Christmas Borscht. Amazing.

Cheese Blintzes are fantastic!
Go to Veselka and get a half a chicken salad sandwich, a cup of hot borscht, and a salad. Get a container of their salad dressing to take with you.
Make sure to check for the seasonal pierogies. The ones I had were short rib and they were delicious!!!
I like sitting at the bar to watch the line cooks and to see the drawer of pierogis! Favorites are the pierogis with onion and sour cream, veggie borscht, blintzes, and the bigos.
They're open 24/7 - turn up after your night out and partake of the pierogis with applesauce.
Their matzo ball soup? Best EVER.
