The Chicago Park District manages 8100 acres of green space, 583 parks, 26 miles of lakefront, 10 museums, 50 nature areas, & hundreds of programs & events.
They've xerascaped large sections of the park with Prairie grasses and shrubs, making it very hospitable to wildlife, especially on summer evenings.
An unofficial dog park. You 'can' let your dog off leash, be careful it's not legal, but the police won't hassle you if you clean up poop, stay out of the forbidden areas

They do multiple fireworks displays on 4 July but get here early (4 pm) to get a good spot.

One of the nicest parks I've ever been in. When the wildflowers are in bloom late spring/early summer in the natural prairie areas is the best.

The maple trees have reached their crimson peak.
40 acres of terrain features a fitness center, track and field, cross training and more. The park is home to the Chicago United Runners and various community clubs that run the trails year round.
