Frequented by Mark Twain, Voltaire, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Oscar Wilde, the pub was rebuilt in 1667 after the Great Fire of London. Expect cramped staircases and sawdust-strewn floors. Read more

Amazing old Sam Smith's pub: real fires, low ceilings, cubby holes, a wonderful basement beer hall without mobile signal. Like drinking in another age; sawdust on the floor, people talk to each other.

Definitively the best in the "Ye Olde" category of pubs. Btw rumor has been around since 1538. Pull up the Wikipedia page and read it aloud to your buddies!

Beautiful atmospheric pub. Loads of little interesting rooms to drink in. Listed in the National inventory of historic pub interiors. Great beer.

Mind thy head and watch thy step and enjoy a pint among literary ghosts. The Cheese is a testament to the British and their ability to maintain motor functioning while imbibing. Cheers!

One of the oldest pubs in London. Opened just after the great fire of London in 1666. It has multiple bars and a wine vault. Rooms are small and being a tall guy I had to duck through doorways.

Worth a visit if you r in London. Small meals are served downstairs in the cellar bar. Beer and cider on the tap. If u r really hungry, dining area at street level serves the main courses.

Great Sam Smith's pub. No phone signal so can be hard to find people if you're meeting them there. Mind your head going down the cellar, but it's well worth getting down there. Good food too.

Panini is not typical English but we had one of the best lunch here ... Tomato, basil and mozzarella panini with corn chips (only available before 5pm)

Lovely old pub with lots of character. Great beer. The food is delicious. What's not to like? It's like going to the museum while having a beer and great meal all in one.

Amazing!!! A bunch of small rooms, passages and low ceilings. Big room with a Christmas tree at the most low level of the building. A chimney near the pubman is amazing. London pub spirit is alive.

Fun fact: William Shakespeare used to spend a lot of time here; ask your waiter which table he usually sat at. Try the bangers and mash with a refreshing beer.

Excellent, sprawling, and ancient! Have been here more times than I can count. Whenever someone visits this is on the list. And Samuel Smiths organic lager is always a good choice.

What a pub should be. This place has been around forever, and that comes across the moment you walk in. Lots of rooms and nooks to have a pint, and above average pub grub.

This is a fascinating Dickensian pub experience. They've managed to make it an attraction without it being cheesy. You do still get a few Americans saying 'gee, look at this'.

It's good enough for Charles Dickens, it's good enough for you. Seriously, this is a great pub, even beyond the history. Fine selection of reasonably priced beers, great food, friendly staff.

Sure, it's got history, but this place stinks and I'm not a fan of Sam Smith beers. Tall folks watch out, you'll clip your head in the low areas.
