To ensure you are always invited back for bagel breakfast and you've finally tasted the best lox in NYC, head to the one and only Zabar's for some double smoked nova, it's simple the best.

They have a nice French cheese on sale this week at 6.98/lb. and a delicious prepared smoked salmon, both of which I had samples of. Left with a treat of Blueberry baked farmer cheese, an old favorite

We love stopping by here when putting together a picnic for a day in Central Park (the lox and rugelach are not to be missed!), and we also have fun browsing their nifty selection of kitchen toys. Read more

Props for having the big jar of salted capers that no other store wants to carry. Also great stinky, gooey, washed rind cheese section. One of the few groceries in town that does not disappoint.

I didn't like the spinach knish very much and thought the spinach and feta croissant was ok. The croissant was buttery and delicious but the filling was too watery and goopy. Maybe went on off day?

Known for its bagels, smoked fish, and cheeses, this traditional Jewish specialty food store in the Upper West Side is a local favorite. It can get crowded though so get there early!

Smoked mussels are great. Sullivan street pizza slices, donut plant donuts. Best Hungarian salami around - get the domestic brand. Best deal? Ham and cheese croissant in the cafe. $2.50!

Great place for expats to find their favourite food from around the world. And don't forget to tell the grumpy cashier it's her turn to wish you "Happy Thanksgiving back" ;)

They have the best chocolate chip scones. If you go to the bread counter near closing time they will often sell you lots of pastries for a reduced price. Like 6 bagels for $1.

Everything's very special and delicious (and pricey) and the hours on foursquare are wrong. Correct hours are: Mon-Fri 8am - 7.30pm Sat: 8am - 8pm and Sun: 9am - 6pm. HAVE FUN :)

A very nice market south of campus. It's worth a visit, even if just to experience it's cuteness! Great for kitchenitems and utensils on the upper level.

Great deli but could become like a zoo during weekends especially if you are trying to get counter service. If you can go off hour, highly recommend it

This NY institution has a zero tolerance towards the uninitiated - and that's not just from the staff. Customers are equally intolerant. Tourists beware.
