James F. Cunningham purchased this land in the 1880s. It was originally a dairy farm but because of flooding, the city of San Jose stepped in, turning it into a man made lake by the 1900s.
Happy Hollow originally opened in 1961. The first merry-go-round that came in 1964 is still in use in the park today.
Weekends are a good time for a lot of kids to gather, otherwise a weekday is better for a quieter atmosphere... Plus it becomes a Christmas Tree Patch later in the Holidays!
