- Brandon McGrawNovember 27, 2012The Old Town Bar has been serving drinks near Union Square since 1892. It also purports to have the city's oldest dumbwaiter and 102-year-old urinals in the men's room. - From Eater NYUpvoted Feb 2
- Mike JohnsonJanuary 5, 2017German beer. Large wings. Small potato salad. Extra celery and blue cheese. Date night complete. And make sure to check out the historic men's room!
- Renee TMay 6, 2015Love it! It's conveniently located at Union Square, and there is plenty of room for large groups. We ate some fantastic turkey burgers (juicy!) and really great BLTs
- Ilya KuznetsovMarch 30, 2018Loved the old New York vibe. Prices are decent, good selection of beers and traditional bar meals.
- This place is a staple for me during the holidays. Avoid the crowds and sit upstairs. Order a cheeseburger (preferably with Muenster) and a seasonal beer. Be ready to be transported to food heaven.
- Mark HeyertJuly 12, 2017This is old time NY. Great simple bar food and cold drinks. Service is always good so enjoy this place for what it is, a great neighborhood bar.
- NYHistoryJuly 24, 2012Founded in 1892, The Old Town Bar was run as a speak-easy by Tammany Hall during Prohibition. It is also home to New York's oldest active dumbwaiters!
- roxanne wangSeptember 27, 2011Located in the Gramercy/Flatiron District, this restaurant (with a bar on the first floor) has the most delicious melt-in-your-mouth cheeseburgers I have ever tasted! Comfortable, clean, and friendly!
- Go for the craft beer, grilled sandwiches, bomb burgers, and amazing, friendly staff.😸
- Marc MayerApril 26, 2015Try the vegan burger. It's amazing. HA! Fooled you. Reward yourself after the crap day you've had with a bona fide whiskey. It'll help you come to grips with your pathetic existence.
- DoubleDeuceApril 4, 2015You can hide things under your seat in the booths. The women's bathroom is inconvenient to get to. It's very clear that Men were top of the list when this place was designed. Old, warm vibe.
- Bin YangSeptember 11, 2016No nonsense old skool bar and great burgers. I like mine medium rare with a side of slaw. Bartenders are all mad chill.
- Nicholas BeckDecember 17, 2012Flatiron saloon is one of the most ancient places to imbibe in town: It’s been pouring drinks steadily since 1892—even operating during Prohibition as a speakeasy.
- al viciedoJanuary 9, 2015The Old Town Burger is a no-frills, diner style burger with a savory griddle grease finish to it. Not the best burger, I would go elsewhere. Read the full review at: http://bit.ly/14A2Zp6.
- Lance CrawfordApril 8, 2013Very good stiff mixed drinks at a reasonable price. A combination that is hard to find in most big cities. The place has a lot of character!
- Patrick BaskinJanuary 16, 2018Lovely spot for a beer and happy hour, lives up to the name and is a bit old looking and traditional
- Daan V.June 30, 2012If you're near Union Square, this is where you want to grab a brew. And while you're there, be sure to check out the oldest urinals in New York (don't worry, they've cleaned them regularly).
- Janine VeazueNovember 2, 2014Friendliest bartenders in the city. Also, coolest dumb waiter. A must for experiencing true New York bar history.
- Tamara HJune 11, 2012"Old Town Bar boasts a modern list of literary heavies as its customers including Frank McCourt, Seamus Heaney, Nick Hornby and Billy Collins." (via @ShelfAwareness)
- Sebastian GFebruary 25, 2016This place is a real gem. Very old school, nice staff, very authentic and best burger I've had in New York!
- Brendan LewisDecember 4, 2014I'd fight a pack of wolves in the middle of the woods during a blizzard for the chicken wings here
- Benjamin HealyAugust 18, 2014Burgers & beer! The little buttons in the wall at each of the booths don't work anymore, so don't bother the waitstaff asking about them.
- Janine PerryMarch 7, 2015This place is super authentic, you can tell it's really old. Very chill and comfortable, and a good bar good menu.
- Sit at the north end of the bar and marvel at the food pulley system making cheeseburgers magically appear
- Public Art FundOctober 21, 2011Visiting The Andy Monument? If you're hungry, head to #StaffPick Old Town Bar. We recommend the sauteed mushrooms and muenster cheese on pumpernickel bread aka "Governor's Choice."
- Buford BarnesFebruary 23, 2012Established 1892 and continuously operated. Most of the furnishings and decor are original, including New York's oldest dumbwaiter and iconic urinals. The original menu was German influenced.
- Nicholas BeckDecember 17, 2012Literary boozers including Frank McCourt (a signed copy of his Angela’s Ashes is displayed above one of the booths), Nick Hornby, Seamus Heaney and Billy Collins—have sidled up to long mahogany bar.
- Matthew SpectorJanuary 1, 2016Classic no-frills pre-Prohibition bar. A solid NYC original not trying too hard to impress. Grab a pint.
- Tom M.August 10, 2014Cold beer and large servings of food in one really old bar that is a must place to check-in at
- Claire DoppmanJanuary 29, 2023Great burgers! Vintage decor two thumbs up! And John was super awesome!
- Spotted by Locals - city guides by localsAugust 13, 2015Don’t leave without visiting the restroom on the ground floor. Trust us, you’ll be very impressed. Read more
- ArjunJanuary 24, 2017Classic old New York establishment. They serve beer by the pitcher in addition to by the pint.
- Michael BoguslavskiyJanuary 15, 2011Some of the best burgers around. To boot this bar has been serving people since 1892, originally a speak easy during prohibition times. Make sure to check out the fully marble bar.
- Alex KimMay 16, 2014Turkey burger fans, you can skip the turkey burger here. You won't miss much. Pretty dry patty and not much seasoning to it.
- Marty MonacoNovember 14, 2015Wings are perfectly sauced and pretty large. Could always be hotter but I am usually happy when I leave
- The bathrooms are like taking a p#ss back in the late 1800's. The wings are amazing.
- bill connellJune 23, 2019Very cold beer. Big brewers - Bells, Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada - but reliable and great atmosphere
- Manasi GandotraMarch 1, 2015Such a cosy bar! And everything is so well priced, also the staff is so friendly!!
- Ask the bartender Fitz for his opinion on the Islanders, Kennedys and old Chinese women.
- James MullanyJanuary 14, 2019No happy hour and no smiles from the bartenders. But the burger and atmosphere are still worth the visit
- This place was a speakeasy during Prohibition called Craig's Restaurant. Want proof? Check out the booths that have seats that lift up in case you need to hide your booze quickly from the authorities.
- Best dog in town. At least in the top 3. We found out one Dog Day Afternoon...after tasting about 6 others
- Benjamin PalmerMarch 21, 2014Check out the autographed VHS box on the wall, for the film "Q&A" starring NICK NOLTE, TIMOTHY HUTTON & ARMAND ASSANTE. "When the questions are dangerous, the answers can be deadly"
- Sabrina WangFebruary 20, 2015old fashioned nostalgia interior. I like the typewriter style check out machine at the bar.
