Still has the old NY feel, it's a great spot to people watch or hang out in the nice weather with a book. Plenty of good food and bars around. Beautiful in the spring and home to a family of Hawks
Relaxing park, a few courts, a pool I don't think anyone uses, and benches galore. I've been warned it's not so nice the later in the evening you get, but surrounded by shops and hot spots.
A great place to stroll after eating and before the in goes down. Stop at the dog park to the watch dogs play. Always a great way to see how compatible you are with your date.

Head over to the dog park, pretend to give one of the furry little guys a scratch on the head but actually whisper how much you hate dogs into the lil' guy's ear. "Why you gotta poop everywhere?!"
Cults don't own a dog but still love to hang out here. "It's kind of creepy...but it's great! You just sit there, maybe bring a dog treat, just ruffle some dogs and hang out."
There are two dog runs at Tompkins Square Park. One for large dogs and the other for small dogs. If you have a medium sized dog, however, they can run loose around the flag pole.
There's a pile of fertilizer in Tompkins Square Park you can't miss it. There's also piles of human shit sprinkled around Thompkins Square Park too, though, so watch your step.
On the north side, there's a monument commemorating the 1904 General Slocum disaster, the greatest single loss of life in NYC prior to 9/11, mentioned in James Joyce's Ulysses.
