Be sure to go on the free tours, it's usually fairly empty and the guide will talk about anything you are interested in learning more about. Give you a sense for how and why each room is arranged.

Every Thursday from 5 pm is free. The Broad is better but MOCA as well has a pretty good collection of modern art

Small, but good. The sandwich place next door (Mendocino Farms) is top notch of you need a pre museum meal.

Really cool museum, although parking is spendy. Parking in the Disney Hall structure across the street is $9, meters are $4/hr.

This is the worst museum in Los Angeles. With the ugliest exterior sculpture you can imagine. However, overall the building is dandy.
