One of the best Ethiopian restaurants I’ve been to (the other is Ghenet in Brooklyn). The meat platter and Awash special platter are great, and the tibs wat are delicious. Also, try the honey wine!

The Vegetarian Combo piles include beets, red lentils, yellow split peas, cabbage, gomen (collards cooked with garlic and onion) and shiro (ground and spiced chickpeas) sitting atop injera.

Especially tasty is the vegetarian combo plate, which is essentially a big, spicy platter of all of Awash’s vegetable dishes on top of a spare salad of lettuce and tomatoes. Read more

Go for their $9 Lunch special and get their combo plate, which is two meats and two veggies. This allows you to try different dishes. The beef tips are a must, so seasoned, with side of chick peas.

Ridiculously amazing Ethiopian. Try the Combo 1 - Chicken, Lamb and 3 vegetables. More than enough for 3 people or 4 meals if you decide to do take out like I did! Can't believe how good the food is.

Among the city's better Ethiopian restaurants. Vegetables are great here, but the tartare is our favorite dish.

Great tasting food served on top of sour injera. Bring clean hands - no utensils here. Vegetarian options are fantastic as well,

The food is incredible--combos are an especially good deal--but the place has negative ambiance and is unbelievably stingy with the injera.

You didn't think that the Upper West Side (or New York, for that matter) had a decent Ethiopian restaurant? The real action is in DC, but the sambusa at Awash is worth checking out.
