Best selection of avant(ish) jazz in NY. Dress comfortably and bring water if you attend a summer show, they turn off the AC and it can be miserably hot.

Best place in NYC to see avantgarde experimental new and exciting music! 100% music, for music lovers by music lovers. No distractions. Just pure 100% music. I love this place!

A true no frills music venue. Just some seats, a stage, and a night of diverse music. Right across the street from the gas station.

Easy-to-miss venue with avant garde performers you won’t find anywhere else. No advance ticket sales, so be prepared to wait or even get turned away.

This particular venue specializes in promoting some of the most unorthodox genres of music and supports itself by releasing limited edition recordings and hosting benefit nights.

Tiny, elemental space where musicians' musicians play. John Zorn is the artistic director. Not a date spot unless your date knows who John Zorn is.

A small art space with big acts, you better get there early if you want a good seat!

Get here early if you're seeing a 'popular' artist (I showed up 30 minutes before the Six Organs of Admittance show and was one of the last people in)

No food or drinks served, tiny with cramped seating. You come here to sit down and listen to music, which is pretty good. Mostly jazz.

Pretty sure all the proceeds go straight to the artists. No nonsense music venue worth supporting.

Clutch it like a corner-stone otherwise the walls come down, justify denials and rip it to the lonesome end.

Chez Betty right around the corner on 3rd St is a great spot to wait and have a bite before Stone shows. They have free wireless w/ $5 food/drink purchase.
