- Kimpton Sir Francis Drake HotelApril 15, 2016Save up to 15% off our best available rate when you book at least 14 days in advance. Use special code 14DAY before checkout.
- Perfect location on Powell street. Rooms are small but perfect for small parties. If you refuse housekeeping service they give you vouchers you can use at restaurants. Stairs are inconvenient w/ bags
- One of my fav places to stay in SF - Classic old hotel, fun quaint rooms, fantastic service, great access to local landmarks. Starlight Ballroom on top floor - Scala's restaurant is the best.
- Khaled HijabNovember 21, 2015Grab a drink from the Drake bar on the way up to your room. Clean renovated rooms and bathrooms. Comfortable beds and pillows. Excellent room service. -- pick a city-view room on check in.
- Hugo ReevesJune 26, 2015A beautifully crafted and presented hotel. Passionate and helpful staff, also an awesome, friendly beefeater helping you catch a cab. The restaurant below is top notch, and serves really good meals.
- Justin MartinNovember 11, 2021My room was a LOT smaller than shown on the web. The hotel was clean & inviting with great room service. The staff were knowledgeable & helpful. I’d go back if I knew for certain of the rooms size.
- SophiaDecember 26, 2013The hotel is contemporary yet has an air of elegant vintage. Awesome staff. Pet friendly! And uber central to Union square. The rooms are smaller in sq feet but hey that cannot be altered.
- Sarah T.February 16, 2014Two words: Wine hour. :) and they do it a little differently from other Kimptons, with some small bites if you go early, and spiced cider for the winter season.
- Lindsay MMarch 9, 2016Great, friendly concierge!! Rooms are nice & clean. Some are much smaller than others. Walls are VERY thin, could hear the people next to us constantly. Would stay here again.
- Megan BauerMarch 14, 2015This is a very nice hotel, and in prime location. However in nature of union square I spent way too much money for a nightly rate and it was a quarter of the size.
- Tyler McPheetersOctober 24, 2014Lobby bar is cool, try the "you boys like Mexico". The true shining star is the starlight room upstairs though.
- Jeffrey GlueckOctober 1, 2015The big red British beefeater in the lobby bar is a bit much for me. But the rooms are nice and location near union square good. Do breakfast at sears across street
- John KiddeSeptember 5, 2017Great place to stay in the city center. Comfy beds, friendly staff, ideal if you're looking to explore Union Square.
- AKSeptember 8, 2014Ornate and cool common areas. Rooms are small and windows are thin. 2 pillows per room and the bathrooms are extremely small. Max 2 people in this room. Free tea and coffee reception in the morning
- Angie BrandtApril 11, 2017Misleading room descriptions. Paid top $ for the "grand" (their highest class of room + view). Asked to be relocated immediately & were told we'd need to downgrade to get a view & have smaller beds.
- Stephanie SJanuary 29, 2012They are awesome here. Be sure to tell Nelson hello! And drink at the lobby bar, and have a good time. Everyone here is super wonderful!!
- Chio InfanteDecember 31, 2014Ricotta ravioli with lemon cream... Absolutely delicious. Try the chilaquiles, also very good!
- Diana SuddrethSeptember 20, 2014To really get into the history, ask the staff to see the Prohibition Room. You won't see it unless you ask.
- Lol BiAugust 3, 2017The rooms are small, but lovely, pillows absolutely marvelous, clean a lovely place to rest.
- Deb BordersSeptember 1, 2015The "Sunday's a Drag" brunch is fabulous!! By far, the best thing going at this hotel.
- Look for bullet holes in the ceiling from a mobster wedding in the 20's. It's where they have the complimentary wine hour.
- Christopher MangoldFebruary 28, 2013Every night you decline housekeeping service has earned me a $10 voucher! Better still, they even let you combine the voucher values!! Awesome!
- MilanoJuly 8, 2012Stayed here for the Fourth of July! Great hotel to stay at and dog-friendly!! Beautiful rooms and awesome staff!
- Aaron HollandApril 20, 2014Everyone is awesome and the place is clean but rooms are super small and the facilities are older.
- Tae KimAugust 13, 2014Worth checking out. Very historic and supposedly haunted. Check out the lounge at the top.
- Jennifer JacobJune 4, 2013Smallest bathroom ever! You sit on the toilet and your knees hit the sink! I'm 5'8 tall. It's smaller than any bathroom I've had in New York City.
- Brian TanisJanuary 8, 2020Nice redo but the walls are paper thin. Can here the complete conversation of t couple in the room next to me in unfortunate detail. Didn’t spend too much time in my room so that was a plus.
- Chesca GJune 8, 2012Superb location but the room lacked what i thought were essentials - coffee maker, fridge and lotion! Also, restrooms were really, really tiny!
- Tammy KerrDecember 27, 2011The oysters are in season and they are fantastic but the bar tender is even better!
- Giacomo GhianniDecember 10, 2013Love the Lobby Bar, best place to people watch. Generous Vodka on the rocks.
- Michael PacholecJuly 16, 2012$10 credit usable in the restaurant if you decline housekeeping. Hang the provided notice on your door and save the whales :)
- Victoria ElliDecember 10, 2013New Year's Eve Extravangaza Party at Sir Francis Drake, San Francisco, CA, early @ Tuesday December 31 2013. Grab your tickets @
http://tinyurl.com/oyoro79 - Sarah BunnyMarch 30, 2012Small rooms but they feel cozy. Short cab ride to just about anywhere in the city!
- Kimpton are definitively the best looking hotels :-) Rooms are nice even if the bathroom are really tiny. Customers service staff are OK but there is rrom for improvement. Great location, I would stay
- The lobby bar is fantastic, cozy, and highly recommended. Better and cozier than most bars I've been to.
- If your room is on the Union Square side...great view, but don't expect to get much sleep. VERY loud music very late into the night.
- I always say to upgrade here. The larger rooms are beautiful and have better views from the 11th floor up..
- David SmithAugust 22, 2014Don't rely on leaving a voice message for the valet, despite the reassuring message. They won't bring your car around unless you actually speak to the valet in person. #fail
- Judilee ReedNovember 16, 2011Comfy bed, small (even by NYC standards) bathrooms. Avoid the room 621, which is the recipient of all the exhaust from the restaurant. Stinky.
