- _July 11, 2015Great service, great food! Don't forget to try the oboro tofu. Also, best ichigo-daifuku (strawberry mochi) outside of Japan! Order one when you get there because they sell out fast!
- This place is a real hidden gem - it's pleasantly low key with really high quality food. Strawberry Mochi and the tofu are highlights. They also open for lunch with a tasty and filling $15 lunch menu.
- Frances JamesDecember 1, 2014One of our favorite Japanese restaurants in the city. Sounds weird but they have great homemade tofu. Sushi is also creative and well-executed. Takes rezzies (rare for a sushi place around here)
- Nors PJuly 1, 2018Have been coming here for 10 years. Consistently phenomenal. The shad, the miso black cod, the chirashi and Mochi strawberries are my favorite. Oh and of course, the tofu.
- Favorite sushi spot in SF. Authentic is the first word that comes to mind. Oboro tofu, fresh sushi, and strawberry mochi are the musts.
- Stephanie AuSeptember 22, 2012The oboro tofu is made right when you order-! If the miso black cod or sardine sashimi is on the specials board--ORDER them. You won't regret it. Request mochi at the beginning because they run out.
- Brodie OlmsteadNovember 27, 2016Consistently great sushi and tofu. Their strawberry mochi is out of this world. Super cozy spot with limited seating. Get here early or make a reservation.
- Anastasia BelozertsevaAugust 13, 2014Tiny authentic spot with delicious fish and extensive sake list. Definitely order your meal from the 'Specials' board for the best choices, you won't regret it. And call ahead to make reservations
- Tobias SchmidtJuly 30, 2018The oboro tofu, warm tofu that hasn't quite set yet, is quite an experience. Do get it!
- Sahil DesaiMay 14, 2016They weren't kidding about they Oboro tofu, it's absolutely delicious. Make sure to put a little Tamari sauce (pure soy sauce) in there.
- John ReedMarch 30, 2015They have sushi in here which is a good thing because they almost have everything that I like about Japanese cuisine right on the bat. Great place to take someone for a date.
- GourmetLiveJune 3, 2011Food blogger Sean Timberlake says, “The oboro tofu at Eiji in the Castro, is made on the spot in the restaurant. The texture is light and fluffy, exactly like eating fog, but it’s warming and soothing
- Maggie ProcterMarch 26, 2015Great place for amazing food!! I have to say that we were so satisfied with the service and the food in here. The taste is really unique and we had a great time.
- Carrie EdwardsApril 19, 2015Get the homemade desserts - strawberry Mochi was my favorite. Order it ahead of time with your reservation!
- Walter BourbeauMarch 22, 2015"The food being served here is so tempting to see. I love the food presentation. Also the interiors and the furniture are exquisite. Good job! "
- Marissa CSeptember 10, 2016My favorite Japanese restaurant in the Mission-Castro area. Known for their tofu but also have some of the freshest 🍣 in town
- Mark MunroFebruary 22, 2018Outstanding tofu. Solid options for vegetarians and great spicy tuna to boot.
- Nico PitneyJune 29, 2014Very good sushi. The service, kelp salad, and desserts were even better. Need to try the fresh tofu.
- Darren KOctober 27, 2018For the price, the fish is fresh. The tofu selections are also very good. To the comment before about sushi rice being warm: chefs train hard and keep their hands cold; rice is not supposed to be warm
- Such fresh fish and fantastic tofu. Get Ankake tofu and any sashimi you like. Finish off with strawberry mochi. This place is a true gem!
- Evan ChenApril 17, 2019The 🍓 mochi is the best! Make sure you get one after your meal. The 🌰 mochi is okay.
- Alex GoffeyJanuary 22, 2015Wow, that's some amazing Japanese - from the tea to the super fresh sashimi and house made tofu, everything was special.
- Amazing Gyoza and sushi. Intimate space with great service.
- authentic Japanese restaurant, I love the salmon skin roll and their sashimi. come earlier if you want the strawberry mochi, they always run out by the time I'm done with dinner!
- Alexandros VJanuary 27, 2016I'm not a fan of sushi, yet I loved every single dish in this place. With about $45 per person you can get a decent dinner.
- Jong Hwan KimAugust 2, 2018Best strawberry mochi here for desert but need to reserve ahead because it is a small restaurant.
- Tobias SchmidtJuly 30, 2018Oboro tofu and the chef selection sushi set were a very satisfying combination
- Fantastic tofu, but also some great sushi. Go for the daily recommendations in the blackboard. We had top notch Ankimo, Sanma, Hirame, and a great eggplant dish. All Japanese staff btw.
- Garry TanDecember 19, 2016The sushi is great and the roasted salmon is divine. Fresh uni too! Very authentic.
- MaxOctober 8, 2015Home style Japanese with a nice mix of cooked dishes and sushi. The toro ribs were super tender.
- Masha IovevaJanuary 7, 2012The great homemade tofu made in a clay pot right there is wonderful, a whole new experience. And the black cod and eggplant are close seconds.
- Strawberry Kochi, Tuna Belly Steak and any of the home made Tofu are to die for. Come hungry!
- At $15, the sushi lunch set is a steal. Non-fussy, traditional nigiri made as it should
- Brook ShelleyFebruary 25, 2017Delicious duck soba, ohitashi, and daily sashimi and nigiri. Cute spot
- Jiafang JiangFebruary 12, 2017Oboro tofu is one of a kind. Their toro and ikura are good too. Kindara is a bit too oily though.
- Ting SNovember 6, 2015Their homemade Tofu is soft and tender, fresh and delicious. Sushi here is good too.
- BommyAugust 3, 2014Definitely get the eggplant with walnut miso! Chef's choice sushi is super fresh.
- Tobias SchmidtJuly 30, 2018The mochi ice cream Kyoto style seemed like a much better idea than was its execution.
- SarahOctober 3, 2018Ankake tofu > oboro imo. Eggplant with walnut miso is amaaaazing. Basically an eggplant brûlée.
- Tom CoatesJuly 31, 2018It’s a good quality fairly traditional small local sushi place. It’s not super ostentatious or showy but the food is good. Medium price for what it is, definitely not cheap.
- Timothy WangMarch 3, 2013The mochi and salmon sashimi was amazing. Specials here are worth checking out too
