- Behrad EatsMarch 3, 2015A great spot for celebrating the Chinese new year with excellent dishes offered like Peking duck, BBQ pork, Singapore-style noodles as well as dishes including their own homemade noodles.
- Jonathan WebberOctober 4, 2013Like others have suggested, the fresh house-made noodle bowls are the way to go. I got the roast duck noodle soup and it was awesome. And use those condiments on the table, go for it!
- Behrad EatsJanuary 6, 2017Order the Barbecue Pig dish which is made of savory pork belly, with crunchy skin. You can thank us later!
- John (aka “PHATFoodFan”)August 18, 2019Get the mixed BBQ, the small does not come with rice but is actually a large portion. Amazing Peking duck and roast pig.🤤 https://www.instagram.com/p/B1SSy-VDzOc/?igshid=1tiyi0ov4nibt
- Behrad EatsMarch 3, 2015This hole in the wall is a real hidden gem, they make their own noodles by had fresh everyday. I recommend the delicious Fresh Noodle Soup with Roast Duck.
- Matt BernsteinJanuary 30, 2016You have to get the duck noodle soup. Made with chewy fresh made noodles and huge chunks of duck and it is as good as everyone talks about. Also be sure to get the handmade dumplings as well.
- Christian WarzochaSeptember 9, 2017Place was phenomenal. Follow the advice and get the noodle bowl with duck. Make sure to try the green ginger sauce. I wasn't sure what it was until the waitress told us to try it. Tons of flavor.
- Chefs FeedAugust 30, 2016"The dumplings here are made fresh on the spot. The ginger-scallion sauce served on the side is bangin' with the pork dumplings." - Chef Jacob Hunter Read more
- Andrea NewlandMay 29, 2011Yum! Big Bang for your buck! Love the ginger, peppers and other condiments they give you. Great for carry out or dine in-enjoy the big tank of fish that look like they have lipstick on, and the big cr
- Heather PopilMay 14, 2018Certainly needs much higher ratings considering that they have a big window to stare & watch the dumplings being made. Everything is amazing. If it has fresh duck in the window it’s a place for me.
- My fav dishes: fresh noodle soup (duck, veggie, all good) and green leaf vegetable
- Helen YuenAugust 23, 2018Beef brisket with wonton noodle tastes pretty authentic! Xiaolongbao skin is too thick & probably frozen.
- My go to is wonton soup noodles with BBQ pork. Choose either the handmade noodles or egg noodles, both are solid options.
- Best fried noodles I've ever had. Also the steamed veggie dumplings are amazing - try them with the condiments that are on the table = amazing
- Richard BowersAugust 30, 2014Cheap, good food, large portions. They had a Japanese curry on special that day, very good. Limited seating, better for takeout.
- NPRinternsApril 11, 2011Intern Sara writes, if your restaurant makes delicious fresh noodles +hand-stuffed dumplings, perhaps u can entice eaters, to come inside by giving a snippet of what can be expected from the outside
- AFAR MediaAugust 4, 2014You may not get the same quality of food as NYC’s Chinatown or Beijing but, all in all, the food at Chinatown Express is not bad and the prices are very reasonable. Read more
- Kris KaneFebruary 2, 2012The best Chinese food I've had in DC. Go for broke on the dumplings, your mouth will thank you. http://www.allmenus.com/dc/washington/53536-chinatown-express/menu/
- The duck noodle soup is the best! It's like chicken noodle soup x1000. Plus the noodles are made on site daily!
- Areesah MobleyDecember 8, 2011Noodles are amazing, but the soup they come in are often not. Go with the Cantonese stuff, and dumplings! I love dropping by for a mixed plate of roast meats.
- Lucas BlairJuly 19, 2019Here’s the truth! When someone says best traditional, this is not! This actually really bad Chinese food. They survive off of unsuspecting tourist, like other Chinese restaurants in the area.
- John SullivanApril 22, 2016Best duck soup around. Stay away from the menu and order whatever the specials are. Decent house hot tea.
- Walter WhitakerMay 27, 2014Best crab egg foo young! Egg rolls were cold and I have had better. Would go back as the noodles looked fantastic
- Shuo SongJune 6, 2012You don't go to a place like Chinatown Express to get chop suey. So sack up and order something that sounds more authentic, like the beef noodle soup w/ brisket!
- Allyson HarttenNovember 25, 2014Solid. Great lunch specials under $10. Big fan of the Ma Po Tofu. :)
- DavidDecember 29, 2009The best things to eat are on the laminated menu they give you. They also happen to be the best bargains (ie: $6 for a cauldron of housemade noodles, $6 for a dozen handmade dumplings, etc). Don't bot
- Corey SimonSeptember 12, 2014I got the duck soup, it was good but in the future I would definitely prefer to try the fried noodles.
- Jeremy TurretMay 4, 2016The upstairs dining room is gritty but a surprisingly secluded escape from the Chinatown street.
- Yong KwonDecember 10, 2014Slightly above avg chinese American food. Everything feels greasy here. Everything.
- H IJanuary 3, 2013Watch the chef make ropes of skinny noodles in the window here. Then order some for under $5.
- John (aka “PHATFoodFan”)August 18, 2019Do NOT get the juicy pork dumplings—not juicy at all and tasted like they were thawed from the ones you can get from a grocery store. 🤢
- Sophia HAugust 21, 2016Good "fresh noodle soup with duck." Duck is eh average - I've had better ones - but the handmade thick textured noodles were delicious
- Raphael AcevedoApril 12, 2015This is a little hole in the wall type restaurant that has very little waiting room at the entrance, which is why the line is out onto the street. Was not impressed
- Vy TranMarch 10, 2012Try their soup noodles with roast pork (which I don't believe is listed on the menu). So. Good.
- B LeeJanuary 23, 2011Relatively unrefined/average quality food. The wrappers of the steamed dumplings are too thick & the pork fillings has a rough texture w/ just ok flavors. The handmade noodles are also rough/starchy.
- CatherineAugust 28, 2013I've had excellent service here before but today SUCKED!! Waitress got order wrong then too afraid to come to table to correct it AND served others same meal I ordered!! 1 out of 10 for service
- Jason SandersOctober 18, 2010Love the place, loath the restroom... if you must go to the can, use the "secret" one on the third floor, worth the trip!
- Avoid the entire menu they hand you. I've tried various dishes on it and they all come out soupy and oily. That said, order anything they are making/hanging in their front windows. Noodles, meats, etc
- Daniel HamiltonJuly 31, 2011Good food and very prompt. It was busy, abd I didn't have to wait 10 minutes before I had my food
- Andrew MarshallMarch 28, 2015Egg and spring rolls were both super greasy. Was not a huge fan of the S&S pork but the lo-mein was good
