Best place for Manhattanhenge; stop by on May 31 or July 11 to see the sun set directly behind Manhattan's streets. You can get a photo here of the sun framed by the Chrysler & Empire State Buildings.
The city allows construction, jackhammering, chainsawing at all hours of the night on the Pulaski Bridge. I want to murder whoever authorized the use of chainsaws & jackhammers between 11pm & 2am.
The Pulaski Bridge, opened to traffic in 1954, is a double leaf, trunnion type bascule bridge. It is the best way to get between Long Island City and Greenpoint.
