On the uptown side, lean against the magic fourth pillar on the left for perfect 3G with Verizon. Nowhere else on the platform.

You can actually receive signal in the station to kill time as you watch the Q train whiz by, surely beating you to Union Square.

You get great cell phone reception towards the front of the platform on the Brooklyn bound side.

If your're riding the C from Brooklyn to NYU ... switch to the R at Jay Street Metro Tech! Worth it.
