- Super tiny and cosy pub right next to the Thames. Lovely little deck out the back which has great views of the river and city skyline. It gets busy so arrive early if you want a seat.
- Jonathan WeirSeptember 11, 2016Don't forget to take a look at the balcony - the in-out of the tide is quite spectacular. It comes right up against the buildings, you could almost be on a boat! The pub food is also excellent.
- Ian AgarOctober 4, 2013This place is a living piece of history and well worth a visit just to feel like a Victorian merchant while you quaff your ale. Make it out onto the decking area for an amazing vista to drink to.
- Francesca MackenzieJuly 15, 2017Cosy friendly small pub, been here since 1584! Great ales with guest ales. Great bar food - the pie of the day was fab and with huge chips, for around £8.50.
- Clea RomeoAugust 29, 2015Lovely outside deck in summer with views of the Thames. Gandalf's staff is behind the bar!
- Often not much room to sit, always very busy Monday night (quiz night), the food is great, makes things difficult to eat. Beer is fine. Is not kid friendly, local bi-laws means strictly no under 18s.
- LondonistNovember 26, 2011The veranda is definitely worth a visit if you can get out there. Wonderful views across the Thames; decent beer too.
- Federico GuardiaNovember 3, 2017Check our Gandalf's staff behind the bar and go outside for a great view of the Thames.

- Christopher KellyJune 1, 2014Every time I've has the pork Sunday lunch it has been spot on. Served quickly and tastes fantastic.
- Seriously good fish, chips and mashed peas. In fact, anything with their chips is delicious
- Aled JonesJanuary 12, 2011Wonderful old school pub. Beautifully kept bitters, great service, wonderful balcony overlooking the river. An absolute delight. Food (upstairs) is also good.
- Great characterful pub which is dog friendly. Try the Doom Bar ale
- The Sunday roast (of any persuasion) is great, but get here early as it fills up fast!
- Luke SpencerSeptember 29, 2013Great little pub, right on the river. Well-kept ales and excellent food. Highly recommended! http://www.thegrapes.co.uk
- Sebastian OstmanAugust 9, 2014Very cosy, old English pub. Oozing with character and history. They don't come better than this.
- Ierax HolargeusFebruary 17, 2022Great traditional pub, ideal spot for summer. Really good Sunday roast.
- Service is great since the change of ownership and the Sunday roast is great!
- It's amazing that Simon Rowland can check in to the pub when it's closed! Well done fella...
- Chris BeachOctober 30, 2011Quaint little pub - Charles Dickens used to frequent. Great roasts at Sunday lunchtime. On other nights, a cracking seafood restaurant
- HISTORY UKFebruary 14, 2011This pub was built in 1720 on the site of an older tavern. As a boy Charles Dickens, who used to visit his godfather who lived nearby, was made to stand on a table and sing to the patrons.
- Ian AgarMay 10, 2014I ordered a coffee (don't hate me) which was my first mistake. It was very weak. I politely asked at the bar to have it done again, feeling super-awkward, and the barmaid was incredibly rude.
- Delicious sunday roast that is served up faster than you can say "sunday roast"
- Kristal KnightAugust 17, 2012Amazing fish and chips. But don't tell anyone... Let's keep this place our little secret...
