Nice bar on the balcony upstairs. The cinema itself is characterful and often has special guest screenings. The high ceilings contribute to a considerably grander experience than your usual multiplex.

Book online in advance to avoid the queues. Then just walk up to the screen door, show the e-ticket on your phone & head straight in. Oh and don't tell anyone but the upstairs bar has a cool balcony.

Fun, retro movie theatre with two bars and a restaurant. Get the burger, don't be a n00b.

The Ritzy marries comfortable theatre-feel screening rooms and a chilled out bar/cafe to great effect. Expect a healthy mix of box-office hits and European independents. Read more

If you go before 5pm on Wednesday and use a orange Wednesday code it works out that you can see a film for about £3.50p which is value for money at any time.

Brilliant cinema, I love it. Watch out for the "popcorn police" - you're not allowed to bring in food and drinks from outside!

The best destination for film geekery. We've enjoyed some of Edgar Wright based fun here. Food is amazing too. Brixton Oval, Coldharbour Lane, SW2 1

Perhaps one of the best independent cinemas in London. But even if you're crazy enough not to enjoy films, you can still find good music and food at the Upstairs Bar.

Screen one is beautiful especially if you get to go on a weekday when it's quieter. Be cautious when ordering breakfast...I'm avoiding their poached eggs.
