The most exciting way to arrive at T5 is to prebook and drive to the Business car park, then take the free personal electric Heathrow Pod service straight to the terminal entrance.
It's much cheaper to take the tube into London than any other option. It takes about 45 minutes to central London so if you have the time use the tube! Buying a travel card is also probably be cheaper
The BA Gallerieslounge right after security is often busy due to being the first one people see. Use the South Lounge above gate A19 for a quieter time with more seats
Before security, take the escalators allll the way down to discover a surprise market. The M&S down here is pretty great, with lots of to-go food options. Sunset is gorgeous at check-in area.
Don't bother with the Heathrow Express. It may be faster but is a rip off. Get the Piccadilly line to central London. Costs you less than £5 and it is 45 or so to central and 55ish to Kings Cross
T5 is one of the best international terminals I've been through. The BA flagship lounges are great. Baggage arrives quickly. If returning from B/C gates, use the lifts = faster than the escalators.
If you’re going to Paddington the TfL service is reasonably quick (about ten minutes slower than Heathrow Express due to stops) and MUCH cheaper! You can also just use contactless payment or Apple Pay
I love Terminal 5! C1 is Visa & passport check for BA. A lot of shops to explore after passport control and for arrivals Uber is at Level 1, Row R short stay. It takes around 10min for Uber.
If time is short, it's much quicker to get between the transit and the gate areas by elevator (compared with the escalator)! The smart money follows the crews - that's what they do!
the big white tables in the hall next to the south business lounge serve power plugs in all output types and nice chairs. perfect for getting work done.
For me one of the easiest terminals in the world, don’t think that this service can be more organised as clearly after your first step inside the building you can see everything for your trip.
Hidden behind World Duty Free, between gates A12-A13 is a quiet area with reclined seating, tables and charging points, overlooking the airplane taxiway
It's actually scattered across three buildings, so you might have to take a shuttle to your final gate. Mostly quiet but people tend to get in the way.
Lovely terminal but deteriorating airline...... Come on BA you can do so much better than aircrafts that lose air conditioning each time Riyadh coordinates are entered
Been to dozens and dozens of airports around the globe. LHR T5 amongst very best. Major hub airport, yet e-passport border+fantastic baggage handling = smooth+fast. All airports should be like this.
Kill the time - play a game of “Find the working power outlet to charge your phone”. Beware of traps if you see one free - it’s most likely out of order. You only win if it really charges your phone!!
If you’d like some exercise before your flight and are departing from B or C, you can take the lift down to -4 and then walk to the ancillary terminal. It’s 10 mins from A to B, a further 10 to C.
Looking for a power plug? Grab a bite at Wagamama, sit down at the first seat on the left with a view of the terminal. Power's in the pillar next to you.
When transferring between the main terminal and satellite B and C gates, why not use the underground walkway beneath the train transfer, good to get a few more steps in! Access by the loft or stairs.
If you flew international First or Business Class on BA - save your boarding pass and get a free 15 minute neck and shoulder massage at Elemenis Spa at the South Lounge.
North security gates currently as there is a pilot of new security scanners happening - allow you to leave laptops and toiletries in your carry on baggage. Makes security checks a bit faster.
If you are leaving from Gate A10 make sure you give yourself plenty of time. These gates take you to buses and the planes can be a good 5-8 minute journey away.
Follow signs to 'business car park' and take a ride on the Heathrow Pod. The first public PRT system in the world! It's a ten-minute round trip from Terminal 5 to either Station A or Station B.
If your flight arrives early in the morning, then the hassle to get through security is quick and prompt. The terminal isn't crowded at that time of day. There's a free 45mins WiFi connection.
Make sure you check out what security check is the quietest ( north or south ) this can make a HUGE difference to the time it takes to clear security and makes extra time for airside drinks :)
Gents lavatories in the baggage collect area often play instrumental versions of 'my heart will go on'. Perfect antidote to a bad nights sleep on a trans Atlantic flight.
it’s LHR modern terminal, multi-storey compact and accessible. Lots of eateries at departure, good for packing food if your flight doesn’t provide you with snacks.
Massive! Not enough time to get round all the duty free shops even with 3 hours before departure! Although I would say grab a sandwich instead of eating from a restaurant as they're very expensive.
Posh Terminal. If you're not hanging out at the BA Lounge, you might want to eat before you get here, not a ton of options but certainly something for everyone.
How have your travels been? The Olympic Torch went on a 7- day journey through 1,000 cities, towns and villages, with 8,000 torchbearers running the flame across the UK.
