Milton L. Olive III, the park’s namesake, was the first African American to receive the Medal of Honor for service in the Vietnam War. He sacrificed his life to save others by smothering a grenade.

If you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Navy Pier, check out nearby Olive Park. It's small, but with great views of the city's skyline and the lakefront. :-D

This park is a dead end if you think you can just walk/run/bike through it. It does offer an elevated, close up view of the lake.
