    元久２年（1205）、菅原道真を祭神として創建されて以来小金井村の鎮守とされており、昔は天満宮と呼ばれていたものが明治３年に小金井神社と改称されたとのこと。学問の神様として崇敬され、境内には珍しい石臼塚、力石や小金井小次郎が奉納した狛犬などがあります。 （UR都市機構HPより）
