Much bigger than you excited if you've been travelling in/out of Berlin for the past few years. Make sure you arrive with plenty of time. Also, Coffee is outrageously expensive.
So new, and yet sooooo old. What a clusterfuck this construction project has been, and it delivered a 2000s-style airport in 2020. You feel like you’re walking through a brand new museum, in a way.
Very badly organised. The airport took 29 years to be ready and not only looks old, cold, empty, but it's features are very superficial and offer a terrible user experience.
Although this has been in the making for decades...I miss Tegel. The vast distances to the city and inside the airport ads an hour to the commute. Lounge experience is a lot better. 😏
Very weird option to register for security check online (security area 4), but actually pretty helpful. Only 10 mins slot. Check online the queue length, really valid data.
30min away (normal traffic) and costs 55Eu by taxi (you may get charged more). Passenger friendlyairport. Check in and security are tight, expect lines and delays. Duty free and food court are small.
Flying Lufthansa? If you can miraculously upload all your documents and complete online check-in (first, quick fist pump) then the self-bag drop only takes 1 minute and is fully automated!
Such an improvement compared to the old Tegal Airport of Berlin. Modern environment, a lot better passenger flow and with very good rail links. No more lugging suitcases onto buses at Tegal.
One of the worst airports in Europe. A shame as I had high hopes for it. Where did all the money go?The delay certainly not justified. Badly organised and very empty. Shops and restaurants overpriced.
Complaints about this airport=being spoiled for years with Tegel & conveniently forgetting the labyrinthine, perpetually overcrowded Schönefeld nightmare. Some are better; they’re mostly far worse.
It’s odd. Too small for a city like Berlin. I like the design style. But the execution is so full of mistakes that this really feels like the most awkward airport in Europe. Still. A nice upgrade.
Priority security was actually very pleasant. Although it wasn’t open when I got there (4am), they found me and opened it up within 5 minutes. Fast and friendly.
What’s good here: actually not that much! Surprisingly bad for a relatively new airport. Lay-out, facilities and service of staff are poor, while prices are high. Disappointing:Berlin deserves better!
Pass through security faster by signing up for free via the “BER Runway” service: allows you to pick a time slot for security control +/-10 minutes, and has a separate lane that moves faster.
Check in first (don't send your luggage yet), and then get your tax receipts stamped at the number 7 customs counter. Your luggage will be sent from their desk.
Functional airport: not too good, not too bad. It was built recently but doesn’t reflect on modern times in terms of functionality. Difficult to find chargers, I rather use my power bank.
To those who complain that security checks are slow. It’s not personnel, it’s travelers, so avoid tourists (if you can), queue behind frequent travelers. Lane 5 often shown as fastest, it’s the same
Coming to the airport with public transp or car, it doesn’t matter: start 4 hours prior toflight time. Time frame given by Google maps is not reliable as the trais are canceled and traffic is awful.
