Very easy to catch the metro and trains arrive quickly and move fast to get to destinations.

For any out of towners: on the escalators the left is for walking, the right is for standing

Lower-level escalator is rarely working. Be prepared to use the stairs.

5pm train to Shady Grove stops way down track - and you have to fight your way in. Don't worry about being polite because the other riders certainly won't be.

For Union Station entrance, avoid the closest fare gates across from pay station machines; the sensors on these gates always malfunction. Use the fare gates opposite the elevator.
  • The Transit Navigator
Stick to the Front of Glenmont / Silver Spring trains for Union Station (Amtrak/MARC/VRE). Reverse for Grosvenor / Shady Grove trains. Doors open on the left.

Watch out for the hustlers who will help visitors buy METRO fare cards and then ask for money.
