- ChenyuOctober 16, 2015Try the less known Greenwich village location - 11th & university place. Less line & same great Japanese food! The red bean Mochi dessert is amazing :) can't go wrong with any set
- Nik MittelsdorfJanuary 10, 2017Popular Japanese Joint. The Chirashi was really good, quality of the fish was superb. Egg custard, which comes with dishes, is incredible. Also to note this is a Non-Tipping restaurant.Upvoted 4 days ago
- D NSeptember 28, 2014The set of tonkatsu with brown rice and a yakitori made of breast of meat with plum sauce and shiso. Everything was perfect. I recommend this place to everyone who enjoys the classic japanese food.
- Ina LiApril 1, 2015Authentic, fairly priced, fresh materials, variety of selection of don and bento set for lunch! The salmon sushi set and marinated beef are recommended! Also try their tofu salad
- H KSeptember 9, 2017Everything was amazing. Try kimchee nabe if you like spicy savory soup and eggs.
- John ColglazierNovember 7, 2021Woah, this place is great! Get the noodle set consisting of Steak Ju with Kake Soba noodles [a perfect lesson in Umame] 🤤. Anything else is just icing on the proverbial cake.
- Sam SDecember 5, 2015Delicious Japanese food. I enjoyed the yasai kurozu (fried vegetables in sauce) and the katsu toji (pork katsu w/ egg and broth). The service was fast and efficient. Get the autumn sundae for dessert.
- Ed SngMarch 1, 2017Their signature chirashi bowl was incredible. The tuna sashimi melted in my mouth and the uni was salty goodness. The steamed egg custard was a great start.
- Aleson HoOctober 20, 2015My knowledge of authentic Japanese food is limited, but the food here is delicious & comforting. I love a place that serves good fish. It's winter now, so they also have hot wine on the drink list. :P
- Neelu RaviOctober 1, 2017Not much option for vegetarians. But I loved this place because of the service and ambience. One gets to experience Japanese culture to an extent. This restaurant reminded me of my days in Japan.
- Come here for all the Japanese comfort foods - pressed sushi, bento sets, yakitori. I'd like to frame the menu it's so good!
- Andrew PerezFebruary 24, 2017Friendly staff, but an intimidating menu if you're going for the first time. Don't be afraid of the egg custard because it's the actual best.
- Jin MoonMay 29, 2015The miso udon and fried buta juto was really good! Earl grey tea ice cream taste very strong so if you don't drink earl grey often, you might get turned off by its taste. It has a floral aftertaste.
- Gabriela ZamudioJune 8, 2017Everything was super yummy! The marinated beef was super juicy and great taste also I recommend to try the Unagi (eel) donabi and the mochi which was one of the best mochi.
- For dinner don't miss the Tsukune- chicken meatball to start. It's in the Yakitori Ju box for lunch. Kaasan Ni is great for lunch or dinner. Listen to the waiter for specials & take their advice
- Chris KonecnyFebruary 26, 2015Amazing experience. Real Japanese food. First time. Not sure how to describe. Just go. With an open mind. Kaasan Ni was recommended to me by a local for next time.
- Zlata ZubenkoJune 6, 2016Miso Katsu Don – the stuff on the right is part of a "set": soup, pickled veggies and savory egg custard. Delish but way too much food for one. Get it to share.
- Jackey LSeptember 8, 2018Everything looks good. I have sushi and sashimi combo set with udon and chawanmushi (Japanese steam egg). Fish are really fresh and good quality.
- Shirley LauJune 26, 2016Wait time could take be insane but perfect for an one person dinner, I've always ordered the chirashi which is awesome, but everything else look great too.
- Stephanie SharplessNovember 26, 2017The katsu toji is one of the best things I've ever had, it was amazing. The ambience is nice and tips aren't required so you have a set price.
- Winson WongFebruary 2, 2015Love this place. Really solid Japanese food with good variety. I usually get the chirashi set but the pork cutlets are also amazing. Reasonably priced for great quality Japanese food. Super crowded!
- Ms HeleneAugust 9, 2013Hanabi don=screamingly fresh served with side of steamed egg custard, vege tofu miso soup and vege pickles. Bit pricey at $27 but authentic atmosphere, staff and ambience. Quality not quantity here.
- Linda ChowJune 26, 2015Best, authentic home cooking Japanese food! Cozy and great for dates. Everything here is tasty, but the fish sets are amazing. The yuzu and fuji apple sorbets are refreshing and underrated.
- This is one of my favorite Go-to places to eat. Always solid, consistently good, meals, whether it’s the one pot meals, yakitori, sushi, lunch or dinner, never disappoints.
- Love the Shima Hokke. It's a homey meal, fish like your mom would make. I always get it and it's always good! Also for lunch, I love the Mini Salmon Don set that comes with a side of soba noodles.
- Amazing sets for dinner with so much yummy food for a reasonable price. There's katsu in different ways and also the salads are tasty.
- Melissa CJuly 22, 2015Delicious and fresh sashimi! Really pleasant and attentive service. Hot towels given pre-eating!
- Tonyu Nabe is my recent favorite. I would recommend almost everything on the menu.
- David GreenbergerOctober 11, 2013Whole place is an adventure.Everything we got = fantastic. Yakatori Chicken meatballs, chicken thigh, mini sashimi bowl and soboro kan (minced chicken w rice, onion. Great place to try something new
- Lily FJanuary 15, 2016The lunch specials are outstanding, worth the money and quick! The small bowl of salmon sashimi over rice and udon was so wonderful! The egg custard is also so wonderful!
- Jeff ChaMarch 8, 2015Best authentic tonkatsu in the City hands down. Waiting for the new West Village outpost to open up.
- Diana BrodyAugust 1, 2021Excellent yakitori & beautiful presentation. Everything was delicious, felt like we were having a tasty modern Japanese meal in Tokyo. The mackerel was especially spectacular.
- TMarch 16, 2014Don't get there too late because some of the best items like the homemade tofu will be all gone.
- A hidden gem on 18th street nearby a few of my favorite places like City Bakery and Paper Presentation. Large portions of delicious Japanese food that come in cute lunch sets. Friendly staff!
- Cote MediaMarch 13, 2015Portions are humongous. The hot Yuzu drinks are outstanding. We had both the fish and chicken (on top of everything) and they were both terrific. Great spot all around.
- MischaApril 13, 2015Best Japanese place in the area! I can say with the menu set you can skip appetizers, but order one to share anyways. And the flavor of the rice is just incomparable.
- Matt www.Travelyaps.comFebruary 9, 2018This meal was a replica of what I ate in Kyoto last summer. Very authentic. Love it
- Fatma GencSeptember 30, 2015Delicious and most satisfying Japanese food. Try the sushi salmon bowl, including miso soup and egg custard ❤️
- Zlata ZubenkoJune 6, 2016Mini Soboro Don set. Shredded chicken over rice with extras (miso soup, custard and pickled veggies). Tasty!
- A fancier version of a Japanese teishoku (set meal) restaurant. My favorites are the set meals with fish. Food is delicious in a homestyle way.
- Michael LeisJuly 14, 2017Everything was amazing. We had a combo of skewers sashimi and miso, all were fantastic. Plus a complimentary cup of tea at the end!
- Great Japanese comfort food. Gluten-free friendly b/c they use rice starch instead of wheat flour in many of their dishes: chicken tatsuta & home made tofu. Delish! :)
- Melody HanAugust 20, 2013Awesome spot for an early lunch. Closer to noon the line isn't as bad. Get the tofu salad to share. You won't regret it. Love all the lunch specials and hotpots.
- Bin YangSeptember 29, 2013All sorts of great japanese comfort food. A tad pricy but it sure is good. I'd definitely get the Oyakodon and some yakitori!
- Teddy LuApril 5, 2015one of my favorite restaurants in chelsea. great food, good prices, and great service. the mackeral dishes are my favorite but everything is good.
- Order the kaisen don set and chicken wing yakitori (shio or salt are both good)...only things I'd pass on here: Beef/Cheese croquettes and meatball yakitori
- Fried chicken is 👌🏼 great for solo or group dining
- AysenApril 11, 2016I ordered Maguro Yamakake( Fin Tuna&Sea Urchin Salad) as appetizer and Salmon Saikyo Set as main dish. Both were very delicious, very Japanese!
- Damon SununtnasukMay 1, 2017Excellent service and good quality for the price. The salt mackerel was very traditional. Great tonkatsu selection
- Pricier and fancier than ones in Japan but still reasonable for Manhattan. Authentic and healthy. Pay the extra few dollars and get the "Set".
