- Do a double take when you look at the cement block walls. They are actually plaster in flour sacks. Very inventive sustainably designed space. Great americano, service, and roasted squash salad.
- Best croissants aux Amandes in NYC. All other pastries are great too as is the bread. Lunch sandwiches rule as does the spicy hummus.
- BrooklynLadyPJuly 13, 2013Face it! You are going to fill up on bread and butter cuz it is seriously sexy stuff! The wines are delicious, duck pastrami, lamb mergez, orrechiette with broccoli rabe and sausage were amazing...
- D FJuly 24, 2017The food was superb, but not only that. They serve one of the best bread in NYC. I remember my childhood trading it! Servers and manager are super nice.
- monydfnyOctober 1, 2017Amazing appetizer of ricotta and hen of woods mushrooms, tender and flavorful steak and delicious orechiette with sausage. Lovely, quiet place to have a good conversation. And great service!
- Brad KleinApril 24, 2022Duck "reuben" was tasty; I will definitely be back to try some of their other fun sandwiches. And do check out the wall, subtle but cool!
- Alice GriffithsFebruary 16, 2016The croissants baked at Runner & Stone are the best I've tasted outside of France and Montreal. Yes, better than Bien Cuit, for you Brooklynites. If only they delivered them to coffee shops near me!
- Amanda CrystalJuly 8, 2017The food is fantastic, and the hospitality can't be beat. If I had to pick an item to recommend, go with the fried chicken. But, honestly, you can't go wrong. Enjoy!
- Eunice HanApril 10, 2013Not just a bakery. They make everything here and it's all REALLY good. We got beet salad, duck pastrami (how did they get duck to taste like pastrami?) chicken (yum!) and ice cream sandwich.
- Matt HealyJune 9, 2014From Serious Eats: "Runner and Stone in Gowanus has made a name for itself with its superb breads. But its canelés, only available on weekends, are just as worth a trip." Read more
- Tom FDecember 22, 2012Fantastic bread/soup. Extremely well cooked steak, pear tiramisu amazing. A lot of modernist techniques without being in your face about it. The spaghetti sucks, noodles are like ramen and undersalted
- Jeremiah ZinnFebruary 11, 2015Chicken with buckwheat dumplings and mushroom broth? Simple, tasty and incredible. So satisfying on a cold winter night.
- Ever order chicken at a really fancy restaurant, and at first you think it's a lame order and then you eat it and discover how amazing chicken can be? This is like that. A bargain at twice the price.
- Tina ZApril 7, 2018Best almond croissant! Try the buckwheat canelés too, and anything except the non-dairy espresso drinks.
- Duck Pastrami and Fried Brussels Sprouts were our favorite things—even the mustard was exceptionally delicious. And, of course, the breads.
- Jeff KlainbergSeptember 14, 2019Nice gem in Gowanus area. Very good pastries and bread. Nice chill vibe.
- Daniel SalinasApril 4, 2015The croissants are amazing. Some of the best in ny. Iced coffee is not great though, sick to espresso drinks which are top notch.
- Wayne SurberFebruary 12, 2014Peter Endriss's breads and pastries are some of the best. It's a family business run and owned by Peter and his cousin Chris, the chef.
- Jeremy WilcoxAugust 7, 2014I had the nettle gnocchi with the duck sausage. Absolutely fantastic. My boyfriend had the fish of the day, and gave it a thumbs up.
- Kathleen Busby-ThomasAugust 30, 2017It was my first time here. I had the Italian sausage on semolina roll it was absolutely delicious. Great food and service
- Tina WongAugust 7, 2014Any baked good here from breads to pastries are a must. Seriously good stuff.
- Becca McArthurMay 13, 2015The breakfast sandwich steals the show thanks to its unique tomato jam. A rustic take on a favorite—must-try!
- Nathalie TorresOctober 25, 2017Ham & cheese croissant is delicious. Not a ton of filling but a perfectly flakey croissant.
- Serious EatsFebruary 19, 2013We love the bread and enjoy the pastries here, though the full menu doesn't quite measure up.
- Kika GMay 1, 2013Anything with their house made mustard, like a pretzel or the duck pastrami. Or just eat the mustard on its own.
- Barry HoggardDecember 29, 2017Great breads, seasonal ingredients from local markets, and a smart wine list.
- Michael RohrerApril 13, 2013Where else can you find Mackerel on the lunch menu? Delish! Also the breads and pastries look awesome!
- KKJanuary 17, 2013Amazing baked goods. Get the chicken entree, risotto, amazing ginger carrots. Brownie dessert is perfection.
- christian svanes koldingNovember 13, 2013the bread is the headliner, it's wonderful. the mackerel báhn mi is bold & gratifying (to those fish loving scandihoovians)... but the coffee here is quite bad and the music is godawful.
- LilyNovember 28, 2014NYMag 2014 Food & Drink Issue: "It's perfectly acceptable—inspired, even—to treat this friendly Brooklyn bistro as your local boulangerie."
- David BlackmanApril 14, 2015The light in this space is gorgeous. It's like being in heaven while eating pastries.
- Solomon PropheteNovember 16, 2013Braided Ravioli, Grilled Rib-Eye w/ Kale Chimichurri, and Grilled Black Sea Bass was delicious.
- Amanda WalkerSeptember 26, 2013Lovely place but a bit pricey for what you get. Best thing we tried was the house-made malted barley ice cream.
- Simran JaisingJanuary 27, 2013food is amazing. had the mackerel on their buckwheat baguette. different and flavorful. coffee could be better though.
- AM tip: get a pastry. It's hard to go wrong, though the financiers are a special treat. Coffee is ok, and better than the espresso.
- Donna NixJanuary 19, 2013I love the Gowanas, Sweet and salty, perfect! Wonderful , friendly Southern Bartender!
- One of the most delicious, flaky pain au chocolat I've ever tasted.
- Mindy MOctober 27, 2013Great pastries, as they along with the breads are baked on premises. Brunch menu was unremarkable and way too expensive for the portion sizes. Coffee was meh.
