- Birthday gift. Surprised to receive a gift when I donated blood during my birthday month. I got a bright red collapsible silicone cup (with heat sleeve) in 2022 👍🏼
- Complimentary snack after donation. Redeem your coupon at nearby cafe. Choice of drinks (besides Milo), sandwiches or pastry, & a simple dessert (green bean soup in my case)
- The DonateBlood app was convenient for me to schedule the next donation appointment. It saved & used my particulars. I can also view my donation history
- Access from Outram MRT. 3-5mins walk from Exit F. Use the stairs with directions towards the Dentistry Clinic & Health Promotion Board. BloodBank is at the next building 👍🏼
- Call to check eligibility if u just returned from overseas travel. Some infections caught abroad can be transmitted through blood transfusion. Eg. countries with malaria requires u to wait 4 months!
- Operating hours. Closed on Mon & PH. Otherwise 9am-5pm Tue-Thu. Longer operating hours on Fri (9am-8pm). On eve of New Year, CNY & Christmas, bank understandably closes at 2pm
- The actual drawing of blood only takes 5-8 mins typically. The thorough medical screening, & post-donation recovery take up the bulk of the time. Plan to set aside 45mins for the whole experience
- Iron supplements are offered during donation, to prevent getting iron deficiency anaemia. From Jan 2018, u r tested for pre-donation haemoglobin level >13g/dl, to ensure safety of donor
- Red bean soup from post-donation snack was nice. But soya milk tasted like an instant one; lacks smoothness & aroma. Chicken mayo sandwich was sweet
- Save waiting time when u arrive. Pre-complete your health assessment form online or via DonateBlood app. Reception will print your responses & u get started immediately on medical screening
- Screening doctor shared that if a potential donor had gotten a tattoo, piercing or acupuncture NOT using disposable needles, there is a risk of blood contamination (e.g. from HIV)
- Effective advisory 😁 Next to sign exhorting the benefits of having an isotonic drink before donation is a tray of free isotonic canned drinks. Champion🏆
- There’s access from Level B1 parking to the blood bank on level 1. Follow the signs
- Received a gift for my blood donation today: kiddy passport holder + stickers. Staff said it was donated by Red Cross
