Die Schönholzer Heide wurde im 2.WK in ein Zwangsarbeiterlager umgewandelt. Nach dem Krieg entstand im nordwestlichen Teil des Parks ein Soldatenfriedhof, auf dem über 13.000 Soldaten der Roten Armee beigesetzt wurden, die bei den Endkämpfen um Berlin im April/Mai 1945 starben.
