- everything is great, but if you're here why not go for the full Monty moriwase? don't forget the sneaky excellent miso soup with tons of seaweed and enoki mushrooms.
- Tammy GordonNovember 29, 2013Start with the salmon sashimi and follow it with your favorite donburi - mine's the pork and shrimp topped with fried egg!
- Derek FromsonAugust 15, 2014Cozy, intimate rice bar with a variety of rice bowl options. Try the delicious uni-sakedon if you like eel or the sakedon if you prefer just salmon sushi. Order and pay first before taking your seat.
- Kaz K.February 15, 2016Order first, then sit. Can get crowded but people don't linger. Gyu-don (beef), sake-don (salmon sashimi), and katsu curry (pork cutlet, jp curry, fried shrimp) are my staples here!
- JorgeFebruary 20, 2018The curry and shrimp is very good. Small place with a simple small menu. There are no tables, just a bar, minimalist interiors and good music, excellent option after a night out on 18th Street
- Evan ChenFebruary 6, 2018Small but cozy rice bar. Order first then find a seat at the bar. I usually get the Sakedon...highly recommended. But I seriously need to try other items on their menu!
- Behrad EatsFebruary 15, 2016The Chicken & Pork Katsudon with curry sauce is nothing short of excellent. Juicy breaded chicken, flavorful crispy pork, and flavorful curry sauce over a bed of wonderful rice.
- Serious EatsApril 14, 2014Go for the Katsudon, which layers a fried panko-coated pork cutlet that's finished in a pan with a gooey egg, caramelized onions, and pickled vegetables, all coated with Donburi's signature sauce.
- ArwaMay 29, 2015Anyone who lives in DC, or plan to visit, this place is a MUST to try. Try their Ebi Katsudon (Panko fried shrimp bowl). Can't wait to go back for it.
- Bin YangSeptember 12, 2015Cute space and incredible food. Slightly sticky short grain rice and anything fried will do (I do also like the gyudon). The Unagi here is great as well. Hefty bowl for the price, great deal.
- Washington PostApril 1, 2015The unagidon bowl features fatty barbecued eel coked and then fired with a blowtorch to give it a faint char; it's piled onto a half-cooked egg, spilling even more richness onto the savory rice. Read more
- Danielle DaSilvaJuly 13, 2018Small counter with delicious food. You'll get a seat quick enough. The shrimp option is awesome, but so is everything else. You order with the host before being seated.
- Nuri JeonJanuary 26, 2016Both of the Donburi dishes I had were super sugarier than how those should have compare to the original flavor of Donburi in Japan. But this is a good place and it knows how Donburi should look like.
- Daniel GraysonMay 23, 2017A little pricey, but this is DC so what isn't. Super satisfying and filling, and the curry is so good.
- Nohra MuradNovember 29, 2017Whatever you get, make sure it has salmon in it (sakedon) or on the side. Rice was a bit mushy, could use some work. Pass on the fried chicken. Drizzle the citrus mayo stuff on everything.
- Evan StaffOctober 12, 2014The pork Katsu is a perfect dish, to which a single large shrimp tempura can be added for $1. The cooks here are a riot and the music is bumpin'.
- Ailie ChangSeptember 15, 2018Curry Katsudon was really good! Small restaurant, so it’s not good for groups. Order your meal to go and eat it at home.
- Donburi is like the rice version of ramen – meat/fish, egg, great garnishes, all quickly prepared and reasonably priced. The only thing they're missing is sake/Japanese beer.
- The salmon sashimi is among the best I've had. Soy marinated fried chicken is two thumbs up, combination Donburi for your first visit.
- Washington PostFebruary 13, 2014How long is the wait? Parties of two usually wait about 15 mins, as people tend to eat quickly. But if you’re a party of four and want to sit together, it’s much trickier at up to two hours. Read more
- All of the bowls I've had are delicious. The salmon sashimi melts in your mouth.
- Ruth LaToison IfillAugust 16, 2016Amazing! Quick and filling. A little tight in there. We will order to go next time, but we will be back!
- Stephanie EdwardsApril 26, 2015Rice bowl was awesome but ALSO a local bakery brought over some pastries and the server gave everyone one to try. So nice!!!
- Sharon ZhangAugust 8, 2014Amazing. Sit at the bar and see the magic happen. Meticulously made with care, the don almost taste too good.
- Lara PDecember 17, 2017Get the unagidon! My favorite place to get eel. Service is fast and friendly.
- Dizzie TotFebruary 1, 2014Pros: great food, nice service, you watch em cook your food. Cons: if ur unlucky u have to wait for a seat, no reservations allowed.
- Jason ChiApril 21, 2014Good Katsudon (pork cutlets) and Karagi (fried chicken). Small space that has a first come, first serve policy.
- Mathew BrailsfordJanuary 18, 2014Great food and atmosphere. Everything looked/smelled/tasted delicious. I highly recommend you check it out.
- Andrew CrevelingJanuary 30, 2014There were only 2 people working. The service is slow, but the wait is WELL worth it! I will definitely come back!
- Christina HoenowJanuary 25, 2016The ebi is awesome! The staff is also super nice which is great too. Definitely recommend!
- Alex SimonJanuary 31, 2015I exclusively get this delivered but it's great and just like JAPAN. Pork or shrimp/can't go wrong
- Emily DoongAugust 6, 2014The food is simple but oh so good. The chicken Karaagedon is crispy without being greasy, and the sakedon is fresh but doesn't taste "too raw".
- Sandra RubinchikMay 5, 2015I got full and left a piece of katsu in my bowl and I really, really miss it right now.
