All the coments are totally outdated. They have an elevator, six floors, a dinning area, a really good bar and the wifi and lugage room is free! For the rate and area, it is really good!!!!
booked a 4 bed female room, clean, fresh linen& quiet as on 4th floor.Ask for upper floor if you want quietness.lounge area is chic, cafe with homemade cakes, bar with pool and table soccer. I love it!
Pros: The hostel has a lively mood during weekends & is centrally located. The staff is really nice & helpful. The con: shared dorms are in the basement so you can feel the underground trains.
We stay at a superior room. The room is clean, perfect size for two of us, with window and air conditional. Thanks Lord no carpet in the room (I am allergic to dust). We hear noise from the hallway.
been here for 6nights! For that price it was really good! bed was clean, room was clean, bathroom was cleaan!breakfast was absolutely enough and the bars in the evening good!wifi everywhere! -germany
Cooked breakfast starts at 10am for £4.50 - otherwise it's continental (£3.50). Barhappy hour from 5pm - 9pm is good value. Laundry and ironing on site (£2.50 a wash, 50p drying, free ironing)
It's the best hostel in London! it's safe, clean, the food is good and there's a happy hour. The security guards are really nice, the toilets are always clean and there's hot water in the showers.
Renovated since the other "prison" comments. This is a clean, well run hostel with great cafe, bar, lounge, cinema and bathrooms that are cleaned regularly and always have hot water
Our room (for 2 people) was clean, there is a security guy at night. That's huge, maybe too much. You should just sleep there and walk a little to eat a real "English breakfast" :)
Ignore the outdated negative comments here - The place is just finishing a complete renovation. Brilliant location, friendly staff, clean facilities and very safe. Will always recommend this place.
I spent a whole week here and it was GREAT. It's an hostel and not an hotel so don't expect high quality but it's good for what you pay. The entertainment is good and I had a very pleasant journey.
The private rooms are very much worth it. Very trendy, clean, and well priced. The bar at the hostel isn't the best though. Better options for a pint nearby.
Expensive hostel, but in a great location (near Kings Cross and Russell Square stations). Really odd vibe, with lots of bouncers on weekends due to the bar. Not the safest hostel to be fair.
EXTREMELY warm in the rooms and cold as hell in the hallways, but overall nice place for price n staff is pretty cool...make your first stop the British Museum, u wont regret it...
The Generator is much better than hotels. One thing I don't like is service at the reception! There's a group of a particular nationality working there need to learn the basic good customer service.
Pretty cool for a hostel. Especially if you don't mind group showers. The crowd was a little young for me (26 at the time of my stay) perfect for college age travelers.
One of the shittiest hostels I ve ever been to. This place feela like you are back in good old Nazi Germany! To get into the bar we needed to show our IDs 4 times. #DontGoThere
We arrived at 11p but our room wasn't ready and mgr was unable to offer new room or any discount, waited 20+ min for housekeepers to clean - even called at 6p to ensure room would be ready, but NOPE!!
"Another locale appealing to those on a mission to suck the very last scrap of marrow out of life, the Generator declares itself “London’s largest, liveliest and funkiest hostel”... Read more
The bad reviews are true. The basement room is smelly, no lights or outlets near beds and you can feel the trains, luggage lockers are £7-8. There are better hostels in London. Staff are nice though.
Nice staff. Lots of stuff to do. Shower a bit bad. Just shoots you in one spot and no where to put your soap and stuff. Good security. Good for a short stay I think
It had been a horrible experience; The students from London use the hotel like a house for having partys in the rooms with music and alcohol all nights and the staff of the hotel allowd them.
One of the grosser hostels I have stayed in... rooms are small & shabby, shower rooms like prison with nowhere to set things, unisex toilets didn't have locks... good thing I was drunk the whole time!
Generator was redecorated and completely transformed, so is good to stay here. It's modern but toilets and bathrooms are a little smelly. Breakfast is too poor, I don't recommend buy it.
Shithole! No charges or lights on the bed, weird people and bad showers. People banging in showers, srsly?! I've been to 3 other Generators and those have been good.
They gave me a voucher for a free drink (but I'm 17) - but I wasn't allowed to even stand in the room where the girls on our trip had booked the entire room.
Awful hostel: blood and other stains on the sheets and curtains, very poor breakfast (paper bag with a few things inside), wifi doesn't reach the rooms, it really feels like a prison.
