- This place is so kitchy it’s epic. Come for the dirty martinis in a pint glass, stay for the meat on meat on meat. When you’re done, they’ll ask if you want moar. You’ll have to get rolled home.
- MariOctober 19, 2018Classic old school SF staple where the only thing on the menu is prime rib. You pick the size and the temp. Get a martini, sit back and travel back in time.

- What can be said about HOPR? Only that it's the best restaurant in all the lands. Dress fancy, order the house manhattan, whatever cut you're into, and a baked potato!
- BommyNovember 9, 2018Delicious cornbread they throw on your plate. Get the english cut. Yorkshire pudding is amazing-use it to sop up the meat juices.
- Alex TenetteSeptember 18, 2014The prime rib just melts in your mouth. The salad is tossed right in front of you at your table. The staff is excellent. Mashed potatoes is perfect. Great for group outtings. Valet is pretty cheap
- LeVan GreeneAugust 3, 2019This was my first time celebrating a friend’s birthday. Cocktails were good I had a mule my meal was delicious the cream spinach very good excellent service. Highly recommend.
- You don't need a reservation at the bar and can order from the full menu, get things like salad and baked potatoes a la carte, or just enjoy a cocktail and people watch.
- Martin D. CiaoAugust 26, 2014Prime ribs. Must get regular cuts. Do yourself a favor, Don't be cute and order three thin slices. That's not gonna be worthy of your hard earn money. Their cream spinach is superb!
- Denise FOctober 28, 2016I'm not big fan of meat, but this place is insanely delicious. Get a reservation in advance (really) or rush to the bar when is opening!cocktails also great. We were lucky and ate in the bar. Book it.
- Get the English Cut, more flavorful and there's a chance you might be able to squeeze in seconds. Also, pass on the baked potato and just get creamed spinach + creamed corn. You won't regret it.
- H KJuly 8, 2016Awesome dinner! Started with some warm bread, and followed by tableside-mixed salad, tableside-cut Prime rib (medium rare), and pudding & mashed potato as sides. All paired with some Sonoma merlot.
- Laurie DalzellSeptember 26, 2015A-Mazing! Get the smallest cut, so you can enjoy all the sides. The mashed potatoes and creamed spinach are so yummy, but you can always get a baked potato and sautéed spinach. But why would you?
- WhiskeyAvengerJune 14, 2018If you’re really hungry get the King Henry VIII Cut. If you finish it you get a smaller, secondary cut. It is a meat lover’s paradise.
- Keri CaslerJanuary 6, 2014Order the prime rib! :p seriously go for the biggest cut- it's only a few bucks more, great to have leftover steak and eggs for breakfast! Not the place to go if you are vegan or vegetarian at all!
- Ronald DLSeptember 29, 2016Best value for money is to go for the a la carte option. You won't get the salad but the steak is true American size with bone
- Tom CoatesJanuary 25, 2019This place is a wonderful experience and the meat is absolutely delicious, but the sides and extras are really bad. I strongly recommend the English cut. They’ll bring a second helping if you want.
- Dale EdelmannFebruary 23, 2014If you like prime rib, this is the place to go. Since 1949 they've been dishing up giant slabs of beef with excellent sides dishes and service. Danny was a great server, very personable and on it.
- Krista VogelSeptember 1, 2014The prime rib really is amazing. I couldn't finish the house cut, but it was only $2 more than the city cut, so it was worth a shot!
- Kelly 🍰June 9, 2013Seconds not available with city cut. However, seconds are only a small, thin slice :( Don't fill up on bread! Enjoy the stuffed baked potatoes and try to ask for half and half creamed spinach and corn
- Jay SJanuary 30, 2016Share the King Henry cut with a friend. It's a good size meal even for two guys. Splitting fee is $7.50.
- Lien PhanMay 23, 2013The English Cut was cooked to perfection! It was tender and juicy! I ate my leftovers the next day and it was just as good as the day before.
- Josh WOctober 20, 2019Get the House cut a la carte for everything but the salad. That way you can actually finish the second cut. Also, half & half creamed spinach and corn ftw
- Chris KoebelFebruary 16, 2013Left full and happy. Not as pricey as you might think considering what you get. Excellent prime rib and mash. Freshly made salad dressing and the best cream corn I have ever had.
- J JohnMarch 6, 2019Legacy restaurant; meat & potatoes heaven. Get the chocolate cake; it’s worth every calorie. Their carpets haven’t been washed since the 70’s
- HOPR never disappoints! I’m a big fan of their English Cut, loaded mash, half corn and half spinach with a Hennessy Side Car. You won’t be disappointed!
- WhiskeyAvengerJune 14, 2018Not just great cuts of prime rib but great Manhattans and Old Fashioneds as well.
- Sherry LiJuly 6, 2015Not much else has to be said about HoPR. Get the house cut, mashed potatoes, and skip the Yorkshire pudding in favor of the cornbread and sourdough. Leave room for (free) seconds!
- petegJuly 31, 2014Martinis and Manhattans come with the shaker; this yield 2 drinks worth of tasty booze. You'll get offered a second smaller serving of prime rib later in the meal
- Order any of the cuts bigger than the city slice, finish your meat, and get a free second serving (that you can pack up to go)
- Ryan HicksApril 3, 2013Literally one of the best meals o have ever had, and probably the best prime rib I have ever had! Also, the apple crisp was amazing; ask to have caramel added
- Human TripodSeptember 27, 2011Prime Rib is great. They tend to cook a bit more than one would like, order med-rare if you enjoy medium. Don't forget to sprinkle the seasoning salt on the cut, and try the whipped horseradish, yum!
- Hannah KirsebomJuly 25, 2019The meat!! <3 This place has been around forever and I suspect nothing has changed for several decades. Cosy and a bit chaotic. Great wine selection, friendly staff.
- O LDecember 7, 2022As an English person I can say - this is the best roast dinner in town. Service is fantastic. Vibe is perfect. Food is brilliant.
- Priscila de AlcântaraOctober 26, 2016Such a good restaurant. Always a pleasure going there. We usually ask for the king cut and share it, it's more than enough for 2.
- Tim HarrisonOctober 7, 2017Awesome spot for a very traditional prime rib dinner. Comes with yorkshire pudding!
- Debra Jones-DavisAugust 21, 2011The House of Prime Rib is the best Prime Rib in SF... the cream spinach is so good... the portions are perfect... and if you didn't get enough you can ask for seconds... coming here since 1981...
- Chris CromwellNovember 30, 2012If you are traveling on business and eating alone you can eat at the bar with no reservation. Also they will give you a small cut of prime rib for free if you are still hungry.
- Thomas PunAugust 23, 2018Salad is life changing. You can also get a second portion of your meat for free.
- Outstanding manhattans. When it's time to decide portion, always go King cut... leftovers make a great breakfast with eggs.
- Jonathan YeeApril 8, 2013Good meat. The various cuts largely relate to the size of portion rather than the cut of meat. If you are more used to European sized portions you might want to go for the meal without the salad
