Chef Rene Ortiz's take on modern Mexican cuisine. Not to miss: the riffs on guacamole, the wild tacos, the cocktails, and pastry chef Laura Sawicki's ice creams. [Eater 38 Member]
start with the alma blanca. maybe some of that corn too. then pick anything else from the menu -- you can't go wrong. (chef ortiz used to work at la esquina back in new york city!)
Come for the guacamole and tequila selection, stay for a great selection of tacos, huaraches and other gourmet Mexican goodness.
Do a tequila taste test with more than 80 varieties, all offered by this eclectic Mexican restaurant. One unique & favorite dish is the costillas de Puerco: pork ribs with plaintains, onions, & cheese
Some may say a bit overpriced, but the ambiance and flavor of the dishes make it a worth while jaunt. Explore their drink menu liberally, it'll knock your sombrero off!
The corn is awesome!
alma blanca might be the best cocktail ever made. the dulce de leche w/ pocorn ice cream can't be missed.
Forget well tequila shots and sugary margaritas. Hit this swanky restaurant and bar for modern drinks with Latin spirits. The Margarita La Condesa will change your perception of margaritas forever.
Guacamole with pomegranate is awesome, unless it's out of season, then watermelon it is.
The watermelon elderflower martini is fantastic. Definitely recommend it.
Happy hour means that the bar gets SLAMMED. Sit at a table outside, and you can avoid the mayhem.
The green bean side is massive, smoky and salty. Love love love.
I wanted to love this place but felt like it was overpriced and not that great. I can see I'm in the minority.
Acapulco ceviche is tangy, refreshing and very fresh. Food is amazing but kind of pricey.
Favorites include the huitlacoche huarache and the refreshing crab toastadas.
The Rotisserie chicken salad (Pollo Rostizado) is phenom. Best chicken I have ever had.
Wow, the reviews are absolutely misleading! Mediocre dishes paired with poor service. Definitely not worth the almost $300 we spent!
Slow and distracted service. Food wasn't great either as some dishes were not at their best. It's the details they're missing but when you add them up, you end up having a disappointing dinner.
One of the best mexican restaurants you'll ever find outside of Mexico. You can't go wrong with the carne asada with chimichurri and the four salsas sampler!
All drinks and apps are 1/2 off M-F 4-7!
Go for tacos during happy hour, 4-7pm. Order the pomegranate guacamole. Get a flavored margarita.
Wait forever, check.
Love tequila? This is your spot. The guac, tacos and other small bites are all excellent as well.
Fancy mexican food... delicious.
2 dollar bloody Marys and mimosas at brunch, yes.
The vegetarian (mushroom) tacos are mind blowing. $2 each during happy hour at the bar. Order at least four.
The Watermelon martinis are amazing and so refreshing!
Best downtown happy hour! Go see the cocktail, Nicki, in the bar! She is great!
The coles de bruselas...AMAZING!!!
Amazing south of the border cuisine. Some of the best mojitos in Austin.
Eaten here on several occasions, they seem to always run 30 - 45 minutes behind on the reservations.
Watermelon elderflower martini, Hamachi ceviche, and side of corn is where it's at.
Great service, excellent flavors
$2 bloody Mary's and mimosas during brunch. The guac sampler app was yummy.
Amazing the 4 salsas - one better than the next!!
AMAZING MEXICAN FOOD!!!!
The queso tastes like cheese.
Overpriced, overhyped. Have had much more inspired Mexican food at far lower prices. Service was awful. I'm being kind here.
Get the El Cubico
If you're invited to a private dinner, note that your mobile won't work for a few hours. *May be worth it for the grilled corn.
Each bite is packed with flavor and thoughtful textures. Make sure to try their tasty margaritas and the street corn covered in mountains of cotija cheese.
Love great food, great atmosphere, and tequila (my fave) then put this top on your list of things to-do. Little known tidbit: rent out the basement for a private dinner that will blow your mind!
Try the Watermelon Lychee Martini (via @Foodspotting)
Get the Alma Blanca cocktail on the rocks!
Order the elote A.B. style, aka corn off the cob.
