- Fried bee hoon. Islandwide chain Hup Lee operates here at #01-11. Expect the same menu, incl nasi lemak & crispy fried chicken wings. Bee hoon is offered in light & dark soy sauce. This combo $4.10
- Vegetarian options: vegetarian bee hoon (#01-37 popular), fried carrot cake, popiah (fresh spring roll), beancurd, chwee kueh (steamed rice cakes), yutiao (dough fritters), pancakes, local desserts

- Char kway teow. Toa Payoh Fried Kway Teow 01-51 sees lots of regulars during meal times. CKT is wet & fragrant. Don't let the lack of queue fool u. Place an order & tell them ur table number
- Chai tow kway (fried carrot cake): So love d old school style at Xin Ji #01-60. It's chunky pieces, just like d good old days. Can taste d smokiness of d frying pan. Shiok!
- Ban Mian. Homestyle & generous bowl from Grandmother Handmade Noodles #01-12. Lots of vege. Soup served with egg white. $3.50 for this bowl, w egg added
- Roasted meat: Locals hv a little secret. Hong Wen Charcoal Roasted Meat #01-61 sells out of char siew, roasted pork & duck by 9am on weekends! Tried getting wantan noodles but char siew was long gone!
- Wantan noodles. Sampled A) Guang Zhou #01-41, B) Tanjong Rhu #01-49, & C) Hong Wen Roasts #01-61. B is the well-rounded winner. A has nice wantans but salty. C has the better char siew (BBQ pork)
- Prawn noodles: What I like abt Toa Payoh Hokkien Prawn Mee #01-36 is their robust soup. Natural-tasting & thick, full of prawn stock. Thumbs down 4 no 'taugeh' (bean sprouts) or 'kangkong' (spinach)

- Bak Chor Mee (minced meat noodles). Forgettable bowl from Lau Pa Sat Minced Meat Mee #01-02. Ingredients appear factory-made
- Vegetarian bee hoon. Bee hoon from Ru Yi #01-29 had a wetter style, compared to Yu Yuan #01-37. Nothing outstanding about dishes
- Popiah: True to locals' feedback, Old Long House Popiah #01-03 is definitely 1 of d better popiahs. Generous filling (unlike those @ Newton Circus), & nice punchy combo of garlic, chilli, sweet sauce
- Kaya butter toast set ($3.20). 157 Coffee House #01-57 uses traditional bread. Well-toasted & generous with kaya spread 👍🏼
- Economic rice (chai png). Lai Heng #01-08 is popular because it offers freshness & variety, as well as being affordable 👍🏼
- Industrial fans. The food centre has been installed with such HVLS fans, so it’s generally cool & breezy throughout the day
- Chicken rice. Decent serving from Lai Lai #01-18. Rice was aromatic. Chicken meat could be more springy. Chilli sauce was punchy!

- Vegetarian bee hoon. Basic plate $2.50 from Yu Yuan #01-37. Soy crisps were a tad salty. Opt for some sauce for a wet meal 😁
- Pancake. Granny's Pancake is yummy but shouldn't there be a limit on how fluorescent orange the filling should look, before the sweetened grated coconut looks radioactive?

- There's a stall @ d mkt #01-110 that sells fresh(!) coconut milk, so that u dun hv to. Gr8 for curries & kuehs. Nice ;-)

- Entrance to toilets has the popular dragon-inspired mosaic mural. Find the dragon playgrounds at nearby Blk 28 Lor 6 & Blk 240 Lor 1 Toa Payoh
- Braised duck rice: Tried fr Kway Chap stall #01-32 based on 4SQ tips. Disappointingly, duck meat lacked d fragrance dat accompany a good braise. Their herbal soup was also too salty :-P
