Duck tacos are excellent!
Actua English sausages and some proper bacon! Also a good isle of British things!
Great selection of chocolate and sweets. In particular English chocolate! Smarties, Maltesers and Mars bars!
Cash only. Amazing place, such atmosphere and personality! Apparently the only Beetles and Classic Rock Museum and Memorabilia ice cream and coffee shop in the world. +1 to Pumpkin icecream!
Breakfast says that it is between 7 and 9:30 but they pack away 15 mins early so don't go late!!! Also checkin is surprisingly at 10am, it costs 1500yen to get here from the station.
If there is a tournament on then you should go! Get a seat upstairs not a box, go between 3-6. Don't run up the stairs. Might be worth renting radio of English translations. Correlate with Wikipedia.
Lovely French/Japanese fusion food in a house built for an American businessman. Inside is decked out like an English country house, there's even a phone box (woodland hen is a mushroom not chicken)
Totally worth a trip, you don't have to visit the temple first either, beautiful Japanese strolling garden, make sure to sit on the bench and watch the dragon flies.
Hard to find as the signposts are in Japanese, walk from the red bridge (river on your left) to the turtle inn, stick left and you'll probably find it. Awesome yet erie! There are two sets of statues.
If you are changing from the Shinkansen to the local train to Yudanaka you need to pay extra even with a rail pass, it leaves from a different station, go outside & turn right, it's next to newsagent
There are not a lot of food options in Yudanaka, get a map of the town at the train station. This is a lovely little restaurant with some of the best Gyoza I've ever had. Also try the teriyaki katsu!
An absolute must visit, you get really close to the monkeys. Careful they don't steal your things! Winter with snow would be best but still good in summer. Walk up the Forrest route there in Summer.
Delightful Ryokan in Shibu Onsen. Get the Kisoji room with outdoor rocky pool. Open the cupboard by the door to get more futons and make a nest if the floor is too hard! Get the Japanese breakfast!!!!
Absolutely lovely shrine, worth a visit! Wear slip-on shoes as you take them off a lot. The 200 steps to the inner shrine is pretty hard going and not stunning, if you have bad knees give it a miss.
Get the White Out and the Flaming Seabass! You won't be disappointed! Some of the best sushi in SF!
The best eggs Benedict I have had in SF so far! Beautifully tart & light Meyer Lemon hollandaise, chives, perfect crumbly ham, well cooked eggs (I suspect moulded rather than loose but v well cooked)
Lots of great Japanese food and shops. Visit Japan Center. Lots of stationery shops and beautiful ceramics. Don't forget to wander about outside too. Great Japanese food!
Free green tea when you arrive, sit by the sushi boats and pick up the sushi plates. Absolutely incredible! Try the hot avocado & prawn tempura rolls!
