The observation tower on a clear-skies day makes a fabulous viewing. Especially after priming the eyes with good stuff in the galleries.
Check out the great view from Pete's Cafe. Enjoy the fish pond in the courtyard, view the Diego Rivera mural, Walter McBean Gallery, and look out for ghosts coming from the tower, it's art school too

Check out this open air campus. The entire building's structure that is designed to carve out picture perfect views of SF. Rivera mural is fantastic as are the current student installations.

I'm a surf shop owner on the east coast and really enjoyed this shop today. A real nice departure from the normal California surf shop. Definitely one to check out.
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Rooftop Garden was conceived as a gallery without a ceiling. Designed by Jensen Architects, it is a 2011 AIA Institute Honor Award for Architecture recipient.
The Snøhetta wing has vastly expanded the original Mario Botta building, though the new galleries don't benefit from much natural light. They are spacious, however, and the collection superb.
SFMOMA stands out because of its incredible collection and it's extremely well curated galleries.

Great coffee, expertly and politely delivered - a good atmosphere for morning start and evening close - there's two full bars - and it's in an art gallery - Bonus!

Nowhere does their website say that the gallery is closed on Tuesday. If you want to see an exhibition rather than overpriced street art tshirts, come some other time.
