- Rylan HoleyFebruary 9, 2015The Sunday roast was gorgeous as was the Scotch Egg. Make sure you get a bottle of the Malbec house red to go with your meal. Dog friendly too.
- Sophie LloydNovember 9, 2014The mint sauce is the star of the lamb roast. Only downside is the proximity to other diners in the back room - I don't need to hear about your sledging plans for 35mins.
- Evening StandardOctober 12, 2012The owners are ex-Soho House, so decor-wise you're in tasteful hands: blood-red leather button-back sofas, soft-lit chandeliers and a few wall-mounted deer antlers for good measure. Read more
- MaríaMarch 6, 2016Loved listening to classical music in the loo. Now, roast wise, it is definitely more worth it if you are carnivorous: the veggie stuff is not impressive and it's too expensive for what you get.
- Matt JollyNovember 8, 2014Good but small selection of beer. Very new-Hackney with kids playing on sofas during the day. Table by the step to the right of the bar, the staff are in and out of the room there and it smells funky.
- DavidMarch 20, 2015You feel like you stumbled across a secret. Gets busy but not unbearable. Well decorated (Hemingway would approve)
- Isa SierraFebruary 15, 2015Hands down, my favourite local pub. Love the food, the atmosphere and the wine list. Great for pub lunch and late drinks.
- Lovely pub inside and out. The beef Wellington for two is meat perfection.
- David John SimpsonNovember 2, 2019Lovely pub - would have loved to have had a drink but we were told no room due to all tables reserved from six (it was 3pm) 🙄 PASS!
- Amazing sweet potato fries. Perfect for tipping you over the £10 card minimum if two of you are stopping in for a pint.
- My favourite pub in London. Cosy and the food is divine!
- Brilliant refurb, v tasteful & a local to be proud of. Generous portions, cheese board MASSIVE and try the sweet potato chips! Very impressed and so grateful the Pennethorn has gone!!
- hello_emilyFebruary 1, 2015Beautiful old pub with a great Sunday roast. Book early cos it gets busy!
- JB SteadmanApril 21, 2013Sunday roast that does not suck. Nothing overdone. The beef rare to medium rare, the vegetables crisp and flavorful. Nice thick crispiness on the potatoes.
- BarChickAugust 20, 2013This place is eccentric but keeps it classy with Beethoven no 5 playing in the loos http://barchick.com/find-a-bar/london/the-hemingway
- Lauren DowningAugust 9, 2014Fantastic veggie burger that's more like a crab cake-veggie burger hybrid.
- Jen Starr DustApril 2, 2015Snacks sound better than food. Eaten a few times, good but not amazing (still pricey)
- The scotch egg will make you give up on lesser scotch eggs. So juicy. So right.
- Liz HicksonNovember 8, 2019Beer selection is pretty standard and the menu hasn't changed in about two years...
- Simone RoperDecember 8, 2013Terrible service! 3/4 meals were delivered quite quickly whereas the fourth took almost an hour with no apology or explanation! Food is nice but not worth the wait.
- There's the stuffed head of an extremely weird animal against the pillar at the bar! Is it a Yeti?
