These are my photos and rankings of all 8 finalists in the Big Tex Choice Awards Best Fried Food contest. Note: locations here are not where the food will be at the fair. Details— http://bit.ly/PVKBv9
Dallas Foodie (Danielle G.): The judges got the "Best Taste" winner right! Deep Fried Jambalaya is packed with flavor and textures— a hint of spicy, salty, and savory, meets soft rice and a crunchy shell, served with spicy ranch.
Dallas Foodie (Danielle G.): So many flavors and textures going on in the "Deep-Fried Divine Chocolate Tres Leches Cake": chocolate, cinnamon, soft cake, fluffy cream, strawberries, peaches, crispy fry batter.
Dallas Foodie (Danielle G.): Winner of "Most Creative" Fried Food is Fried Bacon Cinnamon Roll! It tastes exactly as it sounds– delicious! (But an even better tasting dessert IMO is the Deep Fried Chocolate Tres Leches Cake.)
Dallas Foodie (Danielle G.): Surprisingly delicious little snack, "Fried Mexican Fire Cracker" contains shredded chicken, cheese, and jalapeños in a fresh-made masa dough— nice flavor change-up from the food coated in fry batter.
Dallas Foodie (Danielle G.): There is nothing to dislike about "Fried Picnic on a Stick": spicy chicken, pickles, and tator tots fried and dipped in ranch, BBQ, or honey mustard sauce. It's enough for a meal at the fair!
Dallas Foodie (Danielle G.): "Chicken Fried Cactus Bites" with jalapeño ranch dipping sauce or agave nectar sauce were spicier than most of us liked. Closest comparison is like eating spicy fried green beans.
Dallas Foodie (Danielle G.): Three-cheese mac 'n' cheese is baked, battered, and fried, then placed on a beef party on a bun, served with waffle fries. From a foodie standpoint, it tastes like 3 foods from the grocery freezer.
Dallas Foodie (Danielle G.): Deep fried pork wing and homestyle potato chips. Slow roasted 6 hours, the pork is tender and the sauce tastes smokey sweet, but it doesn't have fry batter or taste fried. The chips are good.
Dallas Foodie (Danielle G.): Here are the nine fried foods I sought out when I took an out-of-state guest to her first State Fair of Texas. Full descriptions at http://bit.ly/PVKBv9.
