Places to go and things to see in the New Paltz area.
1. Mohonk Mountain House
Joe Crobak: Beautiful scenery and plenty to do - hiking, ice skating, swimming, and more.
2. The Labyrinth Hiking Trail
Joe Crobak: also known as the "Lemon Squeeze" this hike is short, but a great workout and features some neat views of the lake. It takes you all the way up to Skytop from near the mountain house.
3. Sky Top
Joe Crobak: incredible views of the gunx and the mountain house.
4. Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park
Joe Crobak: An old bridge that was converted to a walkway/bikeway. Spectacular views of the Hudson river and surrounding areas.
5. Minnewaska State Park Preserve
Joe Crobak: Tons of hiking from short trails to long. In the summer, there's swimming in some of the likes. Keep an eye out for rock climbers.
6. Wallkill View Farm Market
Joe Crobak: Open Spring through Fall, this is a great place to pickup local produce, baked goods, or ice cream.
7. Dressel Farms
Joe Crobak: Pick your own apples or pumpkins.
8. Wallkill Valley Rail Trail
Joe Crobak: From Rosendale to Gardner, this is a fun and relaxing trail alongside the Wallkill River. There's a neat bridge north of New Paltz.
9. Tuthilltown Spirits
Joe Crobak: For those of age, the whiskey is great and there's a really cool tour of the distillery. How this place came about is a neat story.

Joe Crobak: pretty cheap as far as movie theaters go.
12. Historic Huguenot Street
Toni Hokanson: This is the oldest continually habited street in america. Don't miss it! Read more.

Julie P.: Great place to get apples and apple cider donuts! In the fall there are hayrides and pick your own pumpkins/apples. In the winter you can harvest your own Christmas tree.
16. Rosendale Theatre
Julie P.: Historic theater with a great mix of main stream and independent films. Keep an eye out for special live performances and talks from local and regional artists.
17. Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library & Museum
Julie P.: A bit of a trek from New Paltz, but the grounds are great to walk around and the tour of the house is pretty interesting.
18. Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site
Julie P.: Another cool historic place to check out. The only way to see the mansion is to take the guided tour, takes about an hour. No photos allowed, unfortunately.
19. The Blue Sky Ranch | Skydive The Ranch
Julie P.: If you're on the hunt for an adrenaline rush, there is skydiving in nearby Gardiner, NY. Even if it's not for you, it's fun to look up on a clear day and see all the parachutes floating down.
