In a city far from New York geographically and culturally, it can be hard to fulfill that lox bagel craving. Kenny & Zuke's left me satisfied.

The closest thing Portland has to a New York-style Jewish deli. No "artisan" sandwiches here, just simple, unpretentious towers of pastrami, chopped brisket and pickled tongue. [Eater 38 Member] Read more

Not in the mood for pastrami? Chef Ken Gordon has added lighter alternatives like smaller sandwiches and flavorful salads. Oh, and if you are, don't miss the mountainous pastrami cheese fries.

Pastrami hash with eggs on top was what I was recommended when I asked for something to fill me up for the day. It was delicious and totally kept me full for a long time!

If it's mobbed you can order at the take out counter and sit at one of the tables outside. Also the Turkey Reuben aka The Rachel is fantastic!

The pastrami cheese fries are a lot of food, even for two people! We ordered them with two sandwiches and had a hard time finishing everything.

I wish I had more than 1 evening in Portland...and that I didn't have a cold, because I would love to try the Reuben. Instead I had a really good cup of tomato soup and chicken salad sandwich.

The salmon hash has an awesome flavor and is surprisingly filling. (It's smoked salmon so you have to like things a bit salty.) Give it a try!

There's a damn good chance they'll bring you the wrong order (chronically flakey waiters-- see the other tips) but when they finally do bring you your food, it'll be f**king amazing.

Pastrami is yummy, so is the house made mustard and the cheese blintz with fruit compote. Not enough pastrami on the breakfast sandwiches though.

What the fuck! The pastrami somehow got even better this year as they switched from a brisket cut to "beef plate" -- like pork belly but different.
