Visit during the day--there are tours that stop here in the evening, but the lighting is really not sufficient to appreciate the Memorial after dusk.

Really like the design of this memorial. Plantings along the top make it feel framed by nature, spaces to gather, meandering flow, inspirational quotes, space to gather.

Expansive memorial with many tributes to all FDR did over three terms. Incredible quotes all along the way that still resonate today.

7.5 acre four room open memorial along the Tidal Basin in between the MLK memorial and Jefferson memorial. Each room tells a story of each term he was elected

The waterfalls in each section represent the nature of each of FDR's terms, from chaotic to calm. This memorial is so underrated!

Try to go at an off hour, if you don't want a photo with a bunch of strangers in it (like this one, lol) Although I didn't mind too much - these were sweet giggly girls. :)

A hidden gem of a monument. Not the most popular, but perhaps the most pleasant to visit, especially during cherry blossom season.

Handles the Roosevelt presidency well. It’s just a shame the fountains aren’t working at the moment (Aug 2018) as it reduces the impact.

This is an under-appreciated gem of a monument, and kids love it because there are lots of fountains and rocks to climb on.

The falling water adds to your experience through feeling and sound. The water is still at Roosevelt's death and tumultuous during wartime.

TeamTRI Tip: there are 2 FDR memorials in DC. The original is easy to miss...it's on the grounds of the Nat'l Archives. The other is this magnificent tribute. Find a park ranger and get the full scoop

Chat with the Rangers. They really know their stuff. Also, this is a great "hidden" site to impress your non-DC friends.

Sad to see how many visitors - wink, wink millennials - don't understand the monument depicting how impoverished we were, and decide to pose smiling with the statues of those in the food line.

Stroll round the water’s edge taking in the monuments and memorials. The FDR Memorial is a must-see. Alternatively, rent a paddleboat (tidalbasinpaddleboats.com) or do a Potomac River cruise.
