Buy your ticket online or at the counter in front of the museum (cards only) if you don't like to stand in line...(for a long time). Try to come early if you don't like crowds.

Have a rough plan using the museum website, or you could easily lose a whole day wandering through the art. Or maybe that is what you want to do!

The audio guide, here called "multimedia tour", is an iOS app: if you already have an iOS device, you don't need to pay the 5€ to rent a device: you can just download the Rijksmuseum app on the Store!

Download the museum's free app using their free wifi. It's exactly the same as the audio guide that costs €5. Look for numbers next to the pieces: gives you an idea which paintings to focus on.

Aussies shouldn't forget to find Hartog's plate (the oldest European artifact to have been found in Australia) which is practically hidden in a completely nondescript cabinet.

Consider making The Night's Watch your first museum stop - going straight towards it lets you avoid any crowd that forms, then walk away among the other Dutch masters in the Gallery of Honor.

It's a little confusing to explore so be careful you're not exiting to the beginning as you have to go through 'checkin' again. You can photograph EVERYTHING and all staff are so friendly!
