The City of Charleston built this 12-acre park along the harbor, replacing a blighted dock area, at a cost of $13.5M, using tax increment financing bonds, federal & county grants & private donations.

The walk from Cheney Park (next to the Coast Guard Station at Tradd St. and Murray Blvd.) to the end of the High Battery is 1.2 miles.

Park open just not to cars...
During the Jim Crow Era, African Americans were excluded from the parks in Chas, esp the Battery Park which was said to be a premier location in the city during that time. Watch video for more info. Read more.
Dog on vacation with you at the John Rutledge House Inn or Kings Courtyard Inn? The Gardens are a short walk away. Canopied with live oaks & one of the prettiest (yet un-official) downtown dog parks.
This park is very rich in history and a popular place for wedding photos.
If the fog park is closed, the trails are a nice alternative!
Please don't bring treats or food into the park as it can make some dogs aggressive. :-)
We love this park, and Yappy Hour is where it's at! Keep an eye out for our foster dogs from Charleston Animal Society - we love to bring them here to make new friends and get in some good exercise.

An iconic neighborhood park and playground built in the 1960’s and very family oriented. Baseball field, lighted tennis courts, community building, great playground equipment that is kept up.
Great for a run. But for those less athletically inclined, grab a delicious crepe from nearby Queen Street Grocery and have a picnic in the park.
Great park for a leisurely stroll or a run. Nice place to meet athletic young professionals. Can get a little buggy...

This park is near the aquarium, boats to Fort Sumter and right on the Dockside/ Laurens Place walk. Perfect place to stop and relax while touring the city.
Remember Liberty Square is part of the National Park System, if you have a National Park Passport you can collect a stamp in the Fort Sumter National Monument Visitor Education Center.

Don't miss the Christmas Lighting display around the park. It is spectacular, best I've ever seen. $20 for a carload. Kudo's to whoever organized that event. Started Nov 14 thru December. Check it out
