One of the best places to see the Hollywood sign is at the scenic view point on Mulholland dr. And at Runyun Canyon.
The sign was originally constructed in 1923 to promote a subdivision at the top of Beachwood Canyon called Hollywoodland; "land" would later be dropped in 1945 when the area was deeded to the city.
Few people know that after an ill-advised experiment involving a jetpack, I had to replace the "y" in "Hollywood." You will likely be unable to verify this information. Like I said, few people know.

For an unique photo op, visit the sculpture garden in Star Plaza at Staples Center during an LA Kings home game. Each statue is adorned with a Kings' black jersey, including Kareem's, to welcome fans.
