- Behrad EatsMay 9, 2014One of the top burgers in DC here called, appropriately, the Proper Burger: two patties topped with Gouda, charred red onion, sweet chili sauce, dill pickles, rocket & garlic aioli on a brioche bun.
- Teri RushkaSeptember 3, 2014Lunch? Get there early and sit upstairs. What a gorgeous spot and you might get lucky and have an incredibly attentive server/bartender all to yourself for a while. Savor over the hummus and lunch ...
- The Proper Burger. Much has been written. Not enough has been said. Remember how your first ShackBurger made you feel? This is that, only better. More intense, more honest, and way more flavorful.
- John McCombsJanuary 15, 2019Can’t recommend it enough! Got the Truffle Mac&Cheese, Proper Burger, and Caribbean Queen, and all were fantastic. Be sure to talk to a staff member to get in the waitlist for a table, or come early.
- Ashley RoseApril 29, 2016The prosperity burger is the way to go- every table had at least one during our visit. $5 cocktails beer and wine during happy hour 12-7. Service could be friendlier
- William StudartApril 24, 2022The Wagyu was really good, I had high expectations and was not disappointed. Staff was super friendly also. For any burger fan in DC, this is a must place to go.
- Chris EricksonNovember 9, 2015The happy hour is amazing and so is the food. Start your night out with a whiskey & soda, Skull Splitter beer, and literally ANY sandwich. You won't be disappointed!
- ℋumorousJune 3, 2016Walked about 2 ½ miles in rain and took the metro to get this burger. It was damn good and they have Walkers from GB. The "Proper" Burger.
- Can sometimes be a bit difficult to get attention at the bar (if you're lucky enough to get a seat), but the food is worth it. Cheese Toasty and Pumpkin Curry are out of this world.
- Behrad EatsFebruary 15, 2016The Spicy McHaggis is a knockout sandwich! Seared haggis, fried egg, grain mustard, hot sauce, & rocket on sourdough bread!
- Washington PostOctober 24, 2013This is a neighborhood shop dedicated to scratch cooking. It draws inspiration from East London, but the sandwiches are just as much influenced by Argentine or Vietnamese street vendors. Read more
- Adara NeyDecember 10, 2015Great happy hour! $5 glasses of presecco? I'm happy. The photos on here don't do this place justice. Such a great spot tucked away with great ambience.
- Nicole KyleAugust 18, 2014Massive portions so come hungry and skip the sides/apps. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu but "cheesy toasts" aka grilled cheese w truffle oil or the roti are my faves
- Anthony MaggioSeptember 23, 2017The Proper Burger also goes by the name of "Brunchie Burger" during the brunch hours
- Washington PostApril 10, 2014The brick Lane salt-beef sarnie has beef brined for two weeks in a bath of brown sugar and 20 spices; simmered for hours and stacked on rye with house-made pickles and mustard. Read more
- Joel A.March 29, 2015My skepticism dwindled with every delectable bite I took into the Proper Burger. The flavor is the savory equivalent of a starburst, exploding with flavor with every chew.
- Adnan ManjalNovember 6, 2019Cozy food. Creative and delicious menu. The brisket sandwich is fantastic.
- Bogdana BJanuary 2, 2016Great burger place and super hip atmosphere! Definitely try the proper burger it's done just right and the brioche bun is delish!
- Norm SunSeptember 15, 2013The cheese toasties are tremendously decadent and come in a satisfying portion.. The truffle oil take them over the top in deliciousness. Perfect for vegetarians.
- The Proper Burger is just fantastic! Definitely the best burger I've had in DC!
- Best Burger and Mac and cheese I've had in DC. Someone needs to tell them to get a host tho. People walk in and walk out because they have no idea what to do/where to order.
- George NassarMay 15, 2015Brioche bun burgers tend to have too much bread. Not here. The burger is nearly perfectly balanced, like most of their sandwiches. Thumbs up.
- Alex De CasenaveMay 21, 2014Best brunch period ...great black pudding worth the wait . staff is very friendly..hp sauce on table was a nice touch
- Brendan LuuAugust 11, 2014The brunchie burger was on point! They were serving brunch for dinner tonight and my girlfriend got the french toast which was also superb
- Trish TheDishAugust 1, 2014The green papaya salad is super spicy and the corn plate is not really for sharing... Really yummy food and a great happy hour!

- Alex OrrNovember 2, 2014Their take on the bahn mi is one of those delicious sandwich experiences you wish would never end.
- Mark KaigwaDecember 22, 2017The proper burger with Mac and cheese is a great way to get to know the place!
- So here's the thing about Dukes: the food is good but the bread always ruins it. I don't know why but whether it's burgers or hummus or banh mi, the bread is just off. Otherwise drinks are good.
- Liam DarmodyJanuary 25, 2014The Proper English breakfast is fantastic. As are the condiment options!
- First visit was excellent - highly recommend the pumpkin curry and $5 wines 'till 7pm is a great deal.
- Reagan BarbosaMay 11, 2017The Proper Burger is everything it's cracked up to be. Mac n' cheese was also great.
- Mac and cheese is a must. Salt-beef when they have it. Enjoy this neighborhood gem
- Kathryn DOctober 31, 2017The hummus is seriously good, as is the spicy eggplant sandwich for vegetarians.
- Leandro LageraMay 31, 2016Great vibe & great comfort food but far too busy to be worth it these days.
- trillateezyDecember 23, 2014This is actually THE place to get THE best burger. There's no where else that's comparable. No one.
