Grew up in France where millions eat and make Italian food. This place is authentic: Real spaghetti carbonara. CANNOT find better. Wife had a Cioppino, seafood, pretty good too. For desert: tiramisu.

The BEST black/drip coffee in West LA (forget Caffe Luxxe, that is NOT coffee, that is espresso+water). I enjoy an occasional vanilla latte, MED-3-shot, which their expert baristas craft artisanally.

Place is junk. Bar 'food' is shit. Drinks are stupidly overpriced. Service is horrible. Decor is dated. Music is lame. Overall? Good experience.

New location is much more intimate. Toro was incredible; melted on my mouth. My only complaint is that the omakase always leaves me a little hungry.
Though largely overshadowed by the popular omakase dinner, the lunch special (miso soup, salad, sushi bowl, three pieces of nigiri and a hand roll) is worth the hassle of finding midday parking.
The omakase menu includes classic nigiri pieces such as maguro and toro, in addition to butterfish, albacore and yellowtail. Prices are high to match the quality, upwards of $200 a person.
