Hidden gem of Manhattan. A lot of books in literary criticism section, awesome poetry shelves. I love it.

Solid, interesting music playing overhead (as opposed to dead silence at some other places...) and better book selection than I've found at other downtown bookshops. Great jazz record selection.

City secret: This is one of NYCs best used-book stores. Less picked-over than the Strand & better selection than the others (but not nearly as charming as Housing Works). Also great for old jazz LPs.

Stacks of books and rows of jazz on vinyl. You’ll see cool older neighborhood folks talking about how the village used to be and younger folks talking about class.

An old favorite for serendipitous used art book finds. Plus the late hours are great... Til midnight on Fri/Sat & "Sometimes Later."

you can find some great books here. the prices are also alright. the staff isn't too friendly though. they're frumpy and grumble a lot.
